Obituary published on Legacy.com by Feldman Mortuary - Denver on Mar. 4, 2026.
Obituary of Dr. Mark Barter

Dr. Mark Barter, a native of Denver, Colorado, and dedicated member of the Jewish community, passed away on March 3, 2026. He was 79 years of age.

Dr. Barter was born on October 21, 1946, and was raised in the Hilltop neighborhood of Denver. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1964 and subsequently pursued his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, during which time he met Susan Barter, whom he married in 1972.

Following the completion of his medical training in Hartford, Connecticut; Rochester, Minnesota; and Portland, Oregon, Dr. Barter returned to Denver to establish a private practice in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine. He practiced medicine for more than 40 years, maintaining affiliations with numerous hospitals throughout the region. Dr. Barter continued in practice through 2021, retiring when his physical health prevented him from continuing his medical practice. Even in retirement, he stayed current with medical journals and remained available to former patients, family members, and colleagues seeking his counsel and expertise.

Dr. Barter was a devoted member of the Jewish community and was a decades-long member of BMH-BJ. Throughout his life, Dr. Barter enjoyed hobbies collecting and playing 45-records and driving classic cars. Above all, he maintained a deep and abiding interest in baseball. Growing up, he was constantly on the Robinson Park field playing with friends and collecting baseball cards, which grew into an impressive catalogue over the decades. An avid follower of the New York Yankees, as he saw their classic heroes come through the Denver Bears farm club, and then later the Colorado Rockies. He attended spring training and fantasy baseball camps and committed to memory a vast body of statistical knowledge about the game. Dr. Barter coached Little League for his children and later helped establish the baseball program at Denver Jewish Day School, where he served as head coach for a number of years.

Dr. Barter is survived by his wife, Susan Barter; his children, Garrett Barter (Elke), Devra Barter (Justin Neustadter), and Mickey Barter z"l; his brothers, Bruce Barter (Linda) and Jeff Barter (Sandy); and his grandchildren, Izzy and Mira.
