Florence E. Smith, 96, formerly of Corry, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge, Erie, PA.
She was born on April 16, 1929, in Mercer County, PA, a daughter of the late William and Alice (Whitesell) Montgomery.
Florence was raised and educated in Grove City and graduated from Grove City High School in 1947. She worked at Jensen's as a waitress and then Minnicks but her main priority was raising and caring for her family. Once her children were older, she worked as a Nurse's Aide at the Corry Hospital for ten years and retired in 1991.
She was a founding member of the Faith Evangelical Church in Corry and was very active in the churches activities and was a Sunday school teacher. After moving to Erie, she attended Summit United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, recipe books, sewing and spending winters in Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Smith, whom she married on October 16, 1948, in Harrisville, PA; two daughters, Barbara Smith and Gayle Miscik; son, Richard "Todd" Smith; daughter-in-law, Rose Smith; three sisters, Doris Matthews, Twila Montgomery and Mary Blair; her twin brother, Lawrence Montgomery and two brothers, David and Donald Montgomery; two granddaughters, Andrea Smith and Tatum Miscik and grandson, Mark May.
Florence is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Dave) Herrington of Erie, PA, Carolyn (Bruce) Swain of Erie, PA and Janet (Joe) Jawdy of Corry, PA; son, Steven "Beaver" Smith of Corry, PA; two sisters, Virginia Turner of Grove City, PA and Martha Smith of Hermitage, PA two brothers, Walter (Companion, Millie) Montgomery and Clifford (Diane) Montgomery both of Grove City, PA.
She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Great Lakes Hospice for taking such tremendous care of Florence.
Family and friends are invited to call at Faith Church, 13444 W. Washington St, Corry, PA 16407 on Wednesday, November 19th from 10 am until the time of the service there at 12 noon.
Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, PA.
Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 244 Erie Central Mall, Erie, PA 16501.
Arrangements are under the care of Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St, Corry, PA 16407.

I am sad to hear of Aunt Florence's Mom's passing, but I am so grateful for the long and full life she lived. She was a memorable part of my life, and she was a dear friend to my mother, too. May she find peace in God's loving care, and live always in His eternal light.
