Florence Searfoss Vernon

Florence “Flo” Searfoss Vernon, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully at her home in Hilliard, OH  (formerly, Waverly, NY) on June 3, 2025, with her adoring granddaughters by her side. Born on January 29, 1937, in the quaint town of East Smithfield, PA, Flo's life was a testament to her generous spirit and unwavering commitment to her family and community.

Her love story began when she married the love of her life, Carl M. Vernon, on June 30, 1956, embarking on a union that would span 55 years and be filled with shared dreams until Carl's passing on September 1, 2011. Together, they built a life that was both humble and rich in experiences.  

Her career at Westinghouse Corporation spanned 36 years, where she was not only a dedicated employee but also a friend to many. Flo's meticulous nature shone brightly as she managed the books for her husband's construction business, ensuring every detail was accounted for with precision and care.    Flo's passion for travel took her to many places, but she was just as content keeping score for Carl's softball games, a pastime that brought her immense joy. She was an active member of the Waverly Lions Club, where her efforts contributed to the betterment of her community. An avid reader and enthusiastic card player, Flo found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her friends and family will fondly recall her love for a good book and the laughter that filled the room during card games.

Left to honor her memory are her daughter, Annette Vernon and her husband Paul Reinhardt; son-in-law, Joseph Rossi; her beloved granddaughters, Rachel Rossi and Paula Rossi; her brothers, Ronald and David Searfoss; her sister, Joanne (Gerald) Jones; and several nieces, nephews, and their families. Flo's legacy of love continues in the lives of those she touched.  Flo was predeceased by her husband Carl Vernon, her daughter Lori Rossi, and her siblings: Lois Searfoss, Harold (Shirley) Searfoss, Beverly Russell, Ruth Searfoss, Joseph Searfoss,  Robert Searfoss, Helen Rimbey, and an infant brother.

In her life, Flo treasured every moment with her daughter Lori, son-in-law Joe and granddaughters Paula and Rachel, her face lighting up with pride at their every achievement and milestone. The warmth of her embrace and the wisdom of her words will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation on Wednesday, June 11th from 10 -11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
