Florine Wicker Morris

Our mother, Florine Wicker Morris is rejoicing in heaven with loved ones who have gone on before her, Her husband, Richard Eugene "Gene" Morris Sr, her parents William Carroll and Clydie Mae Tyler Wicker. Also, her brothers and sisters, Kermit, Clarence, Jack, Willard, Grady, Hughlean, Eunice, Trudie, Leska, her special cousin Juanita; many nieces, nephews, friends and fur babies. Florine was the baby of her family and last surviving member of her immediate family.

Our Daddy, Gene, was the love of her life. She was a war bride, and they married during WWII. They were married for 65 years and Gene passed away in 2006. Florine was born April 1, 1928, in Jefferson, Texas. She attended school at Lassitar, Jefferson and continued her education at Ore City and Kilgore College.

She loved children, anything strawberry, the color blue, Elvis, Gospel Music, antiques, flowers, gardening with and canning vegetables. Mother loved hosting and cooking for her family and decorating for all the holidays especially Christmas which was her favorite.

Mother drew their house plans for their home. She and Daddy furnished each room with the antiques they collected and refinished, their first home was in Mims Chapel where Brenda and Carma were born, then Dickie. They moved to Ore City where they settled for the rest of their lives.

Mother was a member of the First Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the choir. She also enjoyed being a member of Sweet Adaline's, a singing group. Mother loved her community and was an active member in civil organizations. She was a member of Lion's Club, Garden Club, Fun Festival, which she loved organizing for many years, the Christmas parade, Miss Ore City pageant. She drew the plans and supervised the building of the gazebo in the park.

Gene and Florine were worthy Matron and Patron for two years in the Ore City Eastern Star Lodge. She also received the highest public award from the Ore City Masonic Lodge. She was a regional office of the Garden Club and judged many flower shows. She also won many awards for her flower arrangements. She was a member of the Daughter's of the Nile.

She loved hosting the Tyler Family Reunion for her relatives. She researched the procedure to honor both of her grandfathers with the Southern Cross given to soldiers of the Civil War. She was proud to be the 7th cousin to President John Tyler.

She was Tax Assessor Collector for Ore City Schools for many years.

After mother and daddy retired, they enjoyed setting up at Canton and Longview Trade Days where they sold plants from their nursery.

Mother loved helping people in the community by taking them to doctor appointments and grocery shopping. She was proud of all her accomplishments and was a fierce protector of her family.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Morris Jeter, Carma Jean Morris and her friend Steve, and Richard Eugene Morris, Jr. (Dickie); grandchildren, Richie, Patrick (DOC), Holly, Carrie, Kaitlin, and Jessica; great grandchildren, Ashley, Richard, Dylan, Cody, Faith, Landon, Grayson, and Jace, who loved their Gran dearly; nieces and nephews, Wayne, John Allen, Lewis, Glen, Luther, Lynda, Nancy, Reba, special nephew, Ray Robinson (FLEA); great nieces, Deborah and Jennifer; sister-in-law, Lorene Morris and her fur baby, Lady.

Our family is grateful and would like to say thank you to her caregivers, Pam and Bubba Casey for their love and care for mother, Mary, Donna, and Arlene.

Mother's spirit, kindness, generosity and fierce love for her family will live on in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be at 1:00 PM Monday, September 15, 2025, at First Methodist Church in Ore City. The service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest by her beloved husband Gene at the Mims Chapel Cemetery, Highway and Farm to Market 729.
