Indian Valley community ombudsman, Floyd Richard Austin passed from this life early Wednesday morning July 7th, 2004 at Enloe Community Hospital located in Chico, CA. Born March 14th, 1926 to Floyd and Eula Austin in Los Angeles, CA he went on to serve his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War Two. Floyd's entrepreneurial sprit led him to establish, own and operate numerous different enterprises. In 1966 he established Austin Associated Services, a tax and bookkeeping service which he continued to operate until his death, along with co-owing with his wife, Oak Grove Motor Lodge located outside of Greenville, CA. He also actively participated in the local real estate market. Floyd has been a resident of Indian Valley since moving here in 1980 from Richmond, CA. Floyd was an avid electronics buff who gained great pleasure in working on all types of electronic items. He will be remembered in the community for his regular letters to the editor encouraging residents to get involved in their local communities and informing the public of what he felt was the wastefulness of local government. Floyd enjoyed collecting trains and continued his love of the railroad thru his instrumental efforts in saving the former Greenville Train Depot and relocating it to the Greenville Community Park. He was a key player in the east bound expansion of the Greenville Sewer District and had been elected by the populace as a member of the Indian Valley Community Services District during the last election. Floyd is survived by his wife Jackie whom he married May 27th, 1966 in Richmond, CA, sons, Craig Austin of El Cerrito, CA and Richard Keegan of Sacramento, CA, daughter Debra Olson of Redwood City, CA, sister Gail Allen of Santa Maria, CA along with three grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two daughters. A private family celebration of Floyd's life took place Saturday July 10th, 2004 at the graveside in the Greenville District Cemetery.
