Floyd Ray Conner June 29, 1934 – March 31, 2025

Floyd Conner, retired Chief Warrant Officer of the U.S. Army Reserves, passed away on March 31, 2025, surrounded by love and family. Born June 29, 1934, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Floyd lived a life full of purpose, laughter, and devotion to those he loved.

A proud and loving father of four, grandfather to 11, and great-grandfather of 17, Floyd was the cornerstone of his family. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Conner for an extraordinary 64 years, who survived him. Their story began in Devington, where Shirley, a waitress at a local drugstore, caught Floyd’s eye. With their first shared glance, humorously described as "cockeyed," a love story for the ages was born.

Floyd's professional life reflected his mechanical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years, he owned and operated gas stations in Kentucky and Indiana, building a reputation as a hardworking and skilled mechanic. Beyond his career, Floyd was an accomplished woodworker with a creative touch. He crafted beautiful quilt racks, trophy shelves, baby doll cradles, a cherished red corner cabinet, and many other pieces that now stand as testaments to his talent and care.

Floyd also spent many years devoted to their three-acre homestead, mowing and maintaining the property with pride well into his mid-80s. He cherished the simple joys of life, especially drinking coffee with his wife and family, sharing laughter, love, and stories in those special moments.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children: Peggy (Pat), Pam (Jeff), and Kevin (Lori), who carry forward his values and love. He is reunited in peace with his parents, Lucian and Carrie Conner, his siblings Ramona, Carol, Melvin, Gerald, and Lucian, and his son, Keith Conner.

Floyd's sense of humor brought joy to many, often telling people that while he had four children, “two were adopted, and the other two no one would take.” His kindness, humility, and dedication to family resonated in every aspect of his life, touching all who had the honor of knowing him.

Floyd’s legacy endures in the memories of his loved ones, in the lessons he imparted, and in the handcrafted treasures he leaves behind.

Friends and family are invited to gather at Washington Park East in Indianapolis on April 11, 2025, for visitation at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
