Floyd Cravens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pulliam Funeral Home - Hutsonville on Dec. 18, 2025.
Mr. Floyd Leon Cravens, known affectionately as Leon to his friends and family, embarked on his final journey on December 17, 2025, after many months of failing health. His passage from this world occurred peacefully at his residence in Robinson, Illinois, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on August 15, 1946, in the town of Oblong, Illinois, Leon's life was a testament to the values of courage, adventure, and spirit. His early years were shaped by the guiding hands of his parents, Gale and Lenore (Shyrock) Cravens, who instilled in him a sense of integrity and hard work. A proud graduate of Oblong Township High School in 1964, Leon's commitment to service was evident early on. He answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army, where he became a respected member of the Quartermaster Corps. His twenty years of dedicated military service took him to places like Stuttgart, Germany, and England, where he completed his service with distinction.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Leon returned to his roots in Crawford County, Illinois, where he joined his brother, Jerry in the construction business. His strong work ethic and leadership skills were further showcased during his 15 years at the Hershey Candy company, where he became a beloved figure among his colleagues.
Leon's life was enriched by his loving wife, Margaret A. (Berger) Cravens, and their family. Together, they raised their sons, Richard "Richie" Cravens and Robert M. "Robbie" Cravens (Died 2006) and welcomed daughter-in-law Marsha into the fold. His legacy continued through his grandson, Richard L. Cravens, and spouse Kiah, and his grandchildren Jayden Lee Cravens, Robert M. Cravens Jr., Stacie (Paul) Caesar, Brad Lachenmayr and Bryan Lachenmayr. Great Grandchildren Rayna Cravens, Walker Cravens, Gentry Cravens and Creed Cravens were the apples of Leon's eye as well; They, each one, brought great joy to his life. Floyd was a cherished brother to Larry and Joyce Cravens of Carriere, MS; Jerry and Janie Cravens of Robinson, IL; Steve and Debra Cravens of Waverly, TN, Kevin and Mary Cravens of Breese, IL and his sister, Dolores Boyd of Vienna, IL. His life was also touched by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Neal Cravens.
Leon's belief in an Almighty God was the cornerstone of his life as evidenced by his frequent Bible readings, especially in the Book of Romans, providing him with strength and guidance. He was an active member of the E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, Robinson, Il and served as Quartermaster for the VFW Post #4549 in Robinson, IL. His service to his fellow veterans was a source of great pride and fulfillment.
While stationed in Germany in the Army, Leon and Margaret, explored the cultural tapestries of Europe, traveling through Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, and Holland. These experiences added depth to his character and stories to his rich tapestry of memories. In retirement, while Margaret wanted to move back to Europe to re-live the days of yore, Leon's passions included fishing and fervently cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs, embodying the spirit of hope and perseverance that defined his life. As the years took their toll on Leon and Margaret's health, Leon became the primary care giver for Margaret as she began the battle with memory issues. His last days were spent taking care of her every need for as long as his health permitted.
Leon's journey reminds us of the inspiring words of Helen Keller: "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." He lived by this creed, facing each day with a courageous heart and an adventurous soul. His spirited nature and the love he shared will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Today, as we reflect on the life of Mr. Floyd Leon Cravens, we celebrate a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. His story does not end here but continues in the hearts and minds of those he inspired. Leon's legacy of courage, adventure, and spirit will endure, a beacon of light for future generations.
A time of visitation and sharing of memories about Leon will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday December 20, 2025, at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson, with Celebrant Steve Rockey officiating. Family members and friends will be encouraged to share their favorite stories and memories of Leon. Following the visitation, the combined military detail from Crawford County's Veteran Organizations will perform Military rites as the American Flag is presented to Floyd's family. According to his wishes, Leon's body will be cremated, and his cremated remains will be interred in the Robinson New Cemetery at a time in the future.
The family suggests memorial donations to the VFW Veteran's Transportation Fund in Leon's memory with envelopes available at the funeral home.
