Floyd Thomas Daley Jr. was born on July 15, 1950, in Jefferson Davis County to Floyd Sr. and Verda Mae Aultman Daley. Floyd grew up in Carson, Mississippi and graduated from Bassfield High School. In 1970, he embarked on a remarkable professional journey with Ocean Drilling & Exploration Company (ODECO). His unwavering work ethic and commitment to excellence propelled him through the ranks, ultimately achieving the position of Operations Manager at Diamond Offshore Drilling, the successor to ODECO. Throughout his career of over 40 years, Floyd and his family lived not only in Houston, Texas, but were also afforded the experiences of living in various locations overseas, including the Netherlands and the islands of Trinidad and Tobago in the Southeastern Caribbean. His reputation in the industry was such that he became a trusted adviser, often consulted by his superiors for recommendations on hiring, thereby impacting the careers of many individuals from Jefferson Davis County who found success in offshore drilling.
After a fulfilling career, Floyd and Mary moved back to Hattiesburg, where they enjoyed their beautiful home in Canebrake. This residence became a sanctuary filled with vibrant blooms and a meticulously cared-for lawn, a source of immense pride for Floyd. He loved to invite friends over to share in the beauty of his yard, particularly in the spring when it was at its most magnificent.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Floyd will be remembered for his deep friendships and the camaraderie he shared with his classmates of the Bassfield High School Class of 1968. Affectionately known as the "68ers," this remarkable circle of friends forged lasting bonds during their high school years and has continued to celebrate each other's milestones through the years, exemplifying the true value of friendship. In addition,Floyd was an avid sports fan and passionately cheered for his beloved teams, the Chicago Cubs, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Astros. He was not just a supporter of these teams but also of the people around him, serving as a loving father, grandfather, and dedicated friend.
Mr. Daley is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Verda Mae Daley; his beloved wife, Mary Garner Daley; and his brother, John Robert Daley, Sr.
His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Pamela Daley of Oak Park, IL; his son, Chad Daley (Julie) of Celina, TX; and his sister, Linda McNeese of Pearl. Mr. Daley’s legacy will also continue on through his grandchildren, Sarah Mae Fieser, Chase Daley, Grace Fieser, Griffin Fieser, and Jackson Daley.
