Floyd Wendell Hagen (1937-2024) of Eden Prairie passed away on July 18, 2024 at age 87.
Floyd is survived by his wife Jacquie, who was his true "one and only" for 64 years. He is also survived by and greatly missed by his children Eric (Ivy), Pam (Sean), Kurt and Mark and grandchildren Kai, Logan, Cari, Josh, Nick, Tim, Gia and John, and great grandchildren Ellie and Mikey. He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Selma Hagen of Montevideo, MN and two sisters Beverly Dorsey and Shirley Herrick.
Floyd graduated from Montevideo High School in Montevideo, MN and completed his Aerospace Engineering degree at the University of Minnesota. He met the love of his life in 1959, Jacquie, at a U of M Fraternity/Sorority party and knew instantly she was the one. Floyd and Jacquie wed in June 1960 and bought their first home and started their family.
Floyd had an amazing 39-year career as a Research and Development Aerospace Engineer at Rosemount Engineering (later known as Emerson & BFGoodrich). He was immensely proud of his 30 U.S. patents and 150 Foreign patents for airplane sensors and controls, that are currently used on all military, business and commercial aircraft flying day.
Floyd started running in his mid 30's and what started as a one-mile jog down the county road developed into at least 25 marathons and countless 10K and half marathons.
Floyd was very active in many social and volunteer groups. He was a proud member of the Eden Prairie Lions Club since 1976 and was involved in numerous activities and events. He especially enjoyed volunteering with the Lions at the annual Eden Prairie Schooner Days. Additionally. He and Jacquie volunteered internationally to distribute and fit Lions donated eyeglasses through VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity/International) in many global communities.
Floyd and Jacquie traveled the world together, and especially enjoyed travelling with the Friendship Force, International, staying with families all over the world. They would then host families from other countries to their home in Eden Prairie.
He was an active member of the many social groups including: "Mixed Nuts" fishing group (He thoroughly enjoyed many fishing trips to Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake); the "Norske Torske" Club (celebrating his Norwegian heritage); Immanuel Church Faith groups; the Friday Men's Coffee group; the Rosemount Retiree group, Beta Theta Pi Alumni Association, and other social and friend groups. Floyd was also a founding member of the "Sild Slither" run around EP Round Lake on Thanksgiving morning, followed by pickled herring and other tasty treats.
Tremendous and heartfelt thanks go to the truly exceptional nurses and staff at The Waters Memory Care in Eden Prairie, who provided much more than nursing care for Floyd, but also provided a peaceful and compassionate home over the last year. He welcomed all visitors with a big smile and an enthusiastic "Welcome to my humble abode" greeting.
Friends and extended family can visit with the family at a Celebration of Life memorial service on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 16515 Luther Way,
Eden Prairie, MN 55346. Visitation begins at 3 pm, memorial service with Pastor Paul Nelson begins at 4:00 PM, followed by a meal together at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
