Floyd Hatchew Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center - Flint on Feb. 7, 2026.
Floyd Russell Hatchew, beloved father, Papa, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning February 3, 2026, following complications from heart failure. A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM, Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 901 Garland St. Flint, MI 48503. Family will receive visitors from 4:00PM Thursday until the time of service. Pastor Sarah LaRose Nettell officiating. Cremation will take place. The Good Lord called Floyd home before we were ready. In the weeks leading up to his death, he remained hopeful and full of plans. He was eagerly looking forward to moving to Florida with his girlfriend, Lu Ann Reiff, to finally fulfill his lifelong dream of living by the beach. Lu was by his side, bringing him comfort and love until the end.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Hatchew (Devyn and Abel); daughters, Tina Corner and Shelly (Josh) Morris; his cherished grandsons, Jaxon Floyd, and Jakob Patrick; his sister Jean Whitten; his brothers George (Gail) Hatchew, James Hatchew and his nieces and nephews, George Hatchew, Melissa Hatchew, Scott (Mandy) Hatchew, Mike (Dorothy) Whitten, Stephanie (Nick) Rau and Brittany (Johnny) Eagan. In his passing, Floyd joins his mother Delores and father George.

He dedicated over 25 years of his professional life to ABC Warehouse, ultimately retiring as a Regional Manager. His leadership, work ethic, and genuine care for people left a lasting impression on many and shaped careers of those he worked alongside.

Above all, he was a family man. With an extraordinarily big heart. While not without imperfections, he was deeply loving, endlessly generous, and would do anything for anyone. He led his life with compassion and kindness and truly did not have a mean bone in his body. A devoted and proud father, an engaged and supportive presence in his children's lives, and an exceptional Papa to his grandchildren. His wisdom, stories, and lessons left a lasting impression-so much so that his grandsons often joked that he must have been a "Chinese wise man" because of the knowledge he shared so freely. A constant dreamer, always looking ahead with hope, ideas, and plans for the future. He believed in possibility and carried that sense of optimism throughout his life, a legacy that will transcend generations and live on through his family and the lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his compassion, wisdom, and the immense love he had for his family. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy will live on through those who loved him and the countless lives he touched. We will carry him with us always- in our hearts, in our memories, and in the way we love others the way he loved us.
