Floyd Johnson Obituary

Floyd Johnson
Rosewood Heights - Floyd W. Johnson, 87, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 14, 1936 in Hartford, he was a son of Edwin John Magnuson Johnson and Ida Mae (Eyers) Johnson.
Floyd retired in 1998 after 42 years as a Tool & Die Maker for Olin Corp. He was proud of the fact he was the second ever accepted into the Machinist Apprenticeship Program at Olin. Floyd was a proud 42-year member and 26 year officer (serving as President and Vice President) of Local #660, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. He loved traveling to union functions and American Federation of Labor meetings. He was very proud of his work for the working man, and delighted in being able to secure safer working conditions and collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and hours.
He also served his community as a precinct committeeman and served with COPE, the Committee On Political Education. He earned plaques for his generous gift of donating blood. He enjoyed bowling and watching Cardinals Baseball and Illini Basketball games. He was famous for his barbecued pork steaks, where the secret ingredient was PBR. His grandkids and great grandkids were the light of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Kitty Johnson, whom he married June 15, 1985 in Olympia, WA. Also surviving are his former wife, Rosalie (Mizell) Staats; his children, Randall Johnson and Daniel (Brigitte) Johnson, all of Lecanto, FL, Marc Johnson of San Diego, CA, and Julia (David Grabner) Johnson wood of Alton; grandchildren, Nicole (Brett) Wildt, Jonathan Johnson, Emily Johnson, Bradley (Cheyenne) Johnson, Corey (Kaylee) Shultz, Cathryne Johnson, Jacob (Madeline) Wood, Hayden Grabner and Nicholas Grabner; great grandchildren, Taylor, Elizabeth, Jayden, Liam, Daisy, Colt, Primrose, Natalie, Paisley, and Waylon; and a brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy (Sandy) Johnson of Dow. Floyd will be deeply missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Lela) Johnson; an infant brother Paul Johnson; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith (Melvin) Welborn and Violet (Charles) Clark.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 19 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 10 a.m. until services begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Association.

Memories from the big house on Bender Avenue . Birthdays , graduations , Soap Box Derby , Cub Scouts , Little League at VanPreater Park . My brothers and I were out in all kinds of weather delivering The Telegraph to the Airwood Manor subdivision for several years . Dad was stern about us boys making our own spending money in junior and senior high school - - and we have all led successful lives . Thanks Dad , Love Randy Special appreciation to my sister Julie , her partner Dave , and to Kitty who have helped ease Dad's tough journey these last few years .
