Floyd Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Currie Funeral Home and Crematory on Nov. 26, 2024.
Floyd Clark Jones departed this life for his heavenly home on November 16, 2024, at the age of 101. He was at home in White Stone, VA, surrounded by his loving family, who will miss his presence tremendously. Floyd led an amazing, full, and vibrant life. A humble, gentle and kind man, who was an inspiration and loved by all who knew him.
Floyd was born November 3, 1923 in Lisbon Falls, Maine, the 5th of 6 children born to Charles and Laura Jones. His siblings were Weston, Laurel, Irving, Harold, and Winnifred.
He grew up in Lewiston, Maine, where his family ran a small nursing home in their home. All of the family helped with the care, and it was there that Floyd began his life of compassion and caring, and his interest in the medical field.
As a teen, Floyd excelled in sports, winning the Maine State Championship as a high diver in swimming. He was a star baseball player, who was scouted by the Boston Red Sox. After graduating from Lewiston High School in 1942, he was drafted and entered the Army in early 1943. During training he sustained serious back injuries and was medically discharged. This ended his sports aspirations, but likely saved his life during WWII.
Floyd went on to attend Bates College, then transferred to Eastern Nazarene College, where he studied pre-med. His life changed at ENC when he met his true love, Patricia, who he won over and married in 1948. Floyd and his beloved Patty were married 66 years, and they enjoyed many wonderful adventures together, including travels all over the world. A special time for both of them was early in their relationship when they worked two summers in Vermont for Robert Frost. They had wonderful memories of that experience.
Floyd graduated from medical school in Kansas City, MO, then settled in Detroit, MI and joined his brother (Harold) in their surgical practice at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital. Floyd's patients loved him for his excellent, kind and compassionate care.
Floyd and Pat raised their 3 children, Debi, Bill and Julie, in Pleasant Ridge, then later in Troy, MI. Floyd was a loving father and husband, always there for his family. The family cherished summers at the Higgins Beach cottage in Scarborough, Maine, where the extended Jones family would gather. Later in life, Floyd and Pat moved to White Stone, VA to be near daughter, Julie. They loved their home on Little Bay, and spent several happy years there.
Floyd was a man of great faith, dedicated to God. He was a prayer warrior, faithful in supporting the church and missionaries. He was always generous and helping others.
Floyd was loved by all who knew him. He had a way of making people feel special and cared about, even at first meeting him. Floyd was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, also loved by his many nieces and nephews. His wit, humor, and fun spirit was a joy to all.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and his siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Debi Shene, son, Bill Jones (Paula), and daughter, Julie Jackson (Jim), as well as 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Floyd's life at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock, VA. There will be a reception to follow at White Stone Church of the Nazarene, White Stone, VA.

For almost 70 years Doc and I have been fellow Christians, golfers and checker players and he was the most down to earth person I have ever known. I have missed him since he moved to Virginia to be with his children and I will miss him until we have a heaven meeting. It will be a joy when the Jones and Webbs will be reunited.

Floyd was always kind, humble and supportive. His words were always refreshing to my soul and I always felt better about myself and life in general after being around him. I am certain than many other people had this experience with him. So thankful for the opportunity to know him.
