I took an art appreciation course from Dr. Newsum during my studies at the University of Houston-Downtown. He was one of my all time favorite teachers. Living in third ward, I would run into him ever so often. He always remembered my name and knew the exact semester when I was in his class. What am amazing experience. Dr. Newsum's teaching style was unique; he made learning interesting and enjoyable. Little did we know then that he was a well known and highly successful artist. Sending prayers of comfort to the entire Newsum family.

I was blessed to have Mr. Newsum as my Art Professor at UH back in the mid 1980s. I have so many great memories of him. What I admired most about Mr. Newsum was his passion for teaching and his caring heart. He loved art and was excited to share everything he knew with his students. He was a great influence in my life, so much so that I became an art teacher. Three years ago Mr. Newsum took the time from his busy schedule to have a virtual meeting with my students. The interaction was almost surreal to me as I watched my former art professor speak with my elementary art students. We all had an amazing time! It was something that I will always cherish. I know that God opened the gates of heaven for Mr. Newsom and he is now with our heavenly Father. I will miss Mr. Newsum. My condolences to Mrs. Newsum and the entire Newsum family. May God Bless You with His Comfort and Peace.
