Floyd Daniel Otto, 95, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully at 12:20 am, on Sunday, March 2, at his residence. He was born on March 15, 1929, in Kokomo, IN, to Fred and Nora (Bontrager) Otto.
Floyd married Janis Hall on September 12, 1947, in Fort Worth, TX, she died November 28, 1986. Surviving are four daughters, Sharon (Bobbie) Davidson of Middlebury, Carolyn (John) DeWilde of Goshen, Marilyn (Larry) Saunders of Trout Creek, MT, Julie Gouker of Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Yoder of Mendon, MI; half-sister, Martha Miller of Ligonier; special friends, Janice and Sandra Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Michael Otto; two sisters, Edna Neal and Fannie Simieson; half-sister, Clara Bontrager; three brothers, Junior, Paul, and Lewis; and two infant sisters.
He enlisted in the Army Air Force in Maryland and served in Texas. Floyd worked a variety of jobs, including time at Rogers' Paint Shop, Yoder Concrete, and Monarch Industries in Middlebury. He and his brother Lew owned and operated Otto and Sons Excavating. He delivered RV parts to various RV plants in Elkhart County and more recently was a driver for his neighborhood Amish families and businesses. His hobbies were bowling, fishing in his earlier years, and more recently he enjoyed his large garden and fruit trees, canning, and attending his grandchildren's sports events. Floyd was living independently until he suffered from a stroke a month ago.
There will be two hours of visitation prior to the 11:00 am funeral service on Friday March 14, at Clinton Frame Church, 63846 CR 35 Goshen, where he was a member for 25 years. Services will be conducted by the Clinton Frame Church pastoral team. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to Clinton Frame Church.
