Floyd Thomas Powell

CORDELE - Floyd Thomas Powell, age 81, passed away Friday morning, January 23, 2026, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Floyd was born in Vienna, Georgia, to the late Joseph Daniel Powell, Sr., and Dulcie Banks Powell. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Twylla Powell.

Floyd retired as superintendent of the City of Cordele Street Department, where he dedicated more than 21 years of service in various capacities. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his leisure time.

Survivors include his children, Tony Powell and his wife Karen, and Tonya Hamilton and her husband Don, all of Cordele; his siblings, Joseph "Danny" Powell and Elouise Martin, both of Cordele; his grandchildren, Michael Powell, Stephen Guined, Blake Guined, Clay Johnson, and Brittany Pike; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his significant other, Ethel Thompson, and her children, Allen Thompson, Teresa Gordon, Pam Gordon, and Mike Thompson.
