Floyd Saathoff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home on Dec. 5, 2025.
Floyd Walter Saathoff, age 90 of Hondo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

Floyd was born on February 13, 1935 in Hondo, Texas, to Albert H. and Helena Leinweber Saathoff.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lindeburg Saathoff; parents; stepmother, Meta Hahn Saathoff; brothers, Arnold (Glenrose), Edgar (Shirley), Albert Saathoff; and sister, Elna (Ray) Hickey.

He lost his mother at 7 years of age but had a loving father and siblings to help him through. Two years later, his father married Meta Hahn Saathoff and she became a loving mother to him and affectionately called him, "my boy".

He was educated in the Hondo school system and in his eighth-grade year, a pretty girl from New Fountain, named Doris Lou Lindeburg, came to school. They became high school sweethearts. He loved playing football and hunting and was captain of the football team his senior year, while Doris was elected homecoming queen. Shortly afterward they became husband and wife. They were married for 56 years and provided a loving home for their 3 children, Robin, Keith, and Scott. They established a partnership marriage rooted in Christ that was admired by many. It was often noted how beautifully they glided across a dance floor and were frequently tapped to lead the "grand march" at wedding receptions.

Their life together revolved around farm and ranch life. When his father retired from farming to help his children on their own farms, Floyd and Doris moved to the family home on the farm to grow dry land crops. He eventually drilled an Edwards aquifer irrigation well on the property and converted it to an irrigated farm. He and his oldest brother, Arnold, established a partnership and purchased more property and equipment together. They continued farming together throughout their lives until Arnold retired. Floyd and Doris also bought ranch property and he loved feeding his cattle and petting his gentle bulls. He was a lifelong avid hunter and Thanksgiving holidays usually ended with a family sausage-making enterprise. Floyd and Doris took many trips together but he was always ready to get back home to the land where his heart and soul belonged.

Son, Scott, partnered with his dad on the farm and they continued to farm together for as long as Floyd was able. Robin moved back to the family ranch and Keith took his love of animals and the ranch into a career as a veterinarian.

Floyd will always be remembered as a gentle, hardworking man of faith and integrity. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to many.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who cared for our dad through the years, especially Kathy Kindred who loved and attended to his many needs over the last four years.

Survivors include children Robin (Ken) Weynand, Keith (Cheryl) Saathoff, Scott (Stacy) Saathoff; grandchildren Kyle (Melissa) Weynand, Jill (Kyle) Marlatt, Stephanie (Tres) Summerlin, Sterling (Jordan) Saathoff, Stone Saathoff and 6 great-grandchildren with a 7th due in the new year. He is also survived by sister-in-law Martina Saathoff and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on December 8, 2025, with visitation at 9 am on the same day, at New Fountain Methodist Church, followed interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

The family suggests memorials be made to New Fountain Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
