Floyd Self Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory - Roswell on Dec. 26, 2025.
Floyd Lee Self, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in Roswell, New Mexico. In honor of Floyd, his family invites friends and loved ones to share a kind thought or memory at www.andersonbethany.com. Per his wishes, no services will be held.

Floyd was born on June 28, 1936, in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana, to Mae Carrier and Willie Lee Self. Over the course of his life, he followed opportunities that reflected his strong work ethic and sense of adventure. He spent time in California, where he met his first wife Juanita Sedillos and had three children. He worked at the Ford Vehicle Plant and later at North American–Rockwell, contributing to the Apollo Moon Project. He also proudly enlisted in the United States Army.

Floyd and his family moved to Roswell to make a home in 1971. While working hard for the City of Roswell, he met the love of his life Janice. The two were married on September 3, 1982, and shared a devoted partnership for more than four decades. Floyd worked for the City of Roswell Parks Department from May 1971, until his retirement on October 31, 1998, as Parks department supervisor, earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike.

A man of many interests, Floyd loved fishing and both rifle and bow hunting. During his years in California, he was an enthusiastic member of a quick-draw gun club, performing demonstrations under the direction of Andy Anderson. He also had a deep affection for his pets-his dog, Coco, and his beloved cats: Rowdy, Remi, Dreamy, and Gideon.

Floyd will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice Self; his children: Michael Self of Los Angeles, California; Bernadette Self of Roswell, New Mexico; Anna Self of Roswell, NM; and Kristi Lynn (Self) Torres and her partner, Tom Morris, of Joplin, Missouri. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Faith (Brown) Green and Tyler Green of Springfield, Missouri, and Bryanna Torres, also of Springfield, Missouri. His surviving siblings include Willard Self of Federal Way, Washington; Judy Self Brown of Lafayette, Louisiana; and sister-in-law; Muriel "Bit" Self, of Pine Prairie, Louisiana. Also left to cherish his memories are his ex-wife; Juanita Sedillos-Self, of Roswell, New Mexico.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Mae Carrier and Willie Lee Self, and his siblings, Johnny Lovery Self and Lois (Self) Fenstemaker.

Floyd's tribute was lovingly written by his family.
