Forrest C. Gilmore, 84, of McCormick, SC, husband of Margurite ‘Peggy’ Atkinson Gilmore, died Friday, October 24, 2025, at his home. He was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Curtis Cleveland Gilmore and Geraldine Evelyn Blue Gilmore Kennedy.
Mr. Gilmore was a distinguished graduate of Columbus High School, earning his diploma in 1959. He continued his education at the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1963, and completed his doctorate at the University of Tennessee in 1968. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served stateside honorably during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal and Army Commendation Ribbon. Mr. Gilmore retired after 23 years of dedicated service at Bayer Corporation.
He was an active member of McCormick First Baptist Church, where he contributed significantly to the community. Mr. Gilmore served in the choir, held the position of former Sunday School Superintendent, participated in the Kairos Prison Ministry, and devoted 10 years to the Walk to Emmaus with First Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Rise Carole Thompkins and a brother, Gary Blue Gilmore.
Mr. Gilmore is survived by his wife, Peggy of 62 years of the home; a son, Forrest Gregory Gilmore of McCormick, SC; a brother, Harold Gordon Gilmore of Port Saint Lucia, FL; three grandchildren, Apple, Henry and Holiday.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 28, 2025, 11:00AM in the sanctuary with the Rev. Chris Gulledge officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Social Hall. Graveside services will begin at 3:00PM in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
