Foy R. Huss
July 17, 1929 - February 2, 2025
Foy Robert Huss, 95 years of age, departed this earth on February 2, 2025. Born in Cleveland County on July 17, 1929, he was the oldest of six children born to M.F. (Mebane Feimster) and Mildred (Hudson) Huss.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ruby (Shuford); two sons, Robert and Randy; three sisters, Annie Faye, Joyce Herlick (Ed) and Ruth Stamey; grandson, Ronald Wallace, Jr. and son-in-law, Tony Poteat.
Left to Cherish his memory are daughters, Gail Poteat and Peggy Wallace (Ronald); son, Gary; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving brothers, Thomas (Betty), Norris (Myra) and brother-in-law, Jim Stamey.
As was common for folks growing up in rural America in post Great Depression years, he and his family provided basic essentials for themselves by farming, cultivating the soil, producing crops and raising livestock. At a young age he was trusted to complete labor intensive task, such as plowing with mules, threshing and shocking wheat and saw milling. Thus, farming, hard work and stewardship of the land was instilled in him at a young age and very much defines who he was.
He graduated from Banoak School in 1947 and began working in the furniture manufacturing business at the Southern Desk Company (acquired by Drexel Heritage Furniture) and worked there for 44 years until retiring in 1993.
Foy was a lifetime member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He faithfully served the church in many capacities: church school superintendent, church lay leader, MYF Counselor, choir member and taught Sunday school for 50 years.
He was also a longterm member and past Grand Master of the Cookville Masonic Lodge #502.
His devotion to family, home, community, work and church has been exemplary of Christian service.
