Frances Whiting Bush, 97, of Covington, died Friday, October 31, 2025 at her residence.

She was born August 20, 1928 in New Castle, a daughter of the late James L. Whiting, Sr. and Carrie Caldwell Whiting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ray Bush; two daughters, Deborah Stinnett and Dreama Carson; one sister, Carol Whiting; three brothers, James L. Whiting, Jr., Lawrence "Gene" Whiting, and Frederick Whiting; three grandchildren, Sherri Hulcher, Alan Humphries, and Stacey Timaro; and one great-grandchild, Joey Harmon.

Frances was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Boiling Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Potts Valley Singers, and she stayed active with the League of Older Americans until her health no longer allowed. She loved puzzles, bird watching, and tending to her flowers.

Survivors include her sons, Gary Bush and Dennis Bush; three daughters, Sharon (Charles, Sr.) Persinger, and Regina Hinkle, all of Covington, and Cheryl Andrews of Woodstock; more than 100 cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Garland Whiting of Covington; one sister, Gwendolyn Carwhile of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Earwood officiating, assisted by Rev. David Brown. The family will receive their friends on Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30PM at the funeral home.

Interment will be made in Persinger Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Bobby Persinger, Chris Stinnett, Wendall Hinkle, Daniel Andrews, Travis Andrews, Ray Humphries, Benjamin Bush, and Roman Bush.

Honorary pallbearer: Paul Dameron

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Boiling Spring Fire and Rescue, 5407 Potts Creek Road, Covington, VA 24426.
