Ellena Frances Phillips Byler, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana. She was born on April 10, 1949, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Walter and Regina Phillips. She was a resident of Lake Arthur, Louisiana and a 1967 graduate of Lagrange Senior High School. She was a graduate of McNeese State University and taught high school for 35 years. She married Philip Byler on July 28, 1973, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023.

Frances was an active servant of our community. She was a member of the Lake Charles Youth Symphony, Phi Mu Sorority, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Baptist Singing Women, Pink Lady at Jennings Hospital, and Jeff Davis Republican Women. She sang in the Lake Charles Messiah Chorus for over 30 years. She also dedicated her time to First Baptist Church from singing in the choir and Ladies Ensemble to doing crafts at VBS. Her Thursdays were spent playing cards with a special group of friends as well as some evenings with her Supper Club when she wasn't traveling or at the lake.

She is survived by her husband Philip, two daughters, Suzanne Guillory and husband Tait, and Erin Chapman and husband Jared, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana, one son Jay Byler of Lake Arthur, Louisiana: her seven grandchildren Sadie, Gray, and Chase Guillory along with Byler, Amelia, Philip, and Blaire Chapman all of Lake Charles; sisters, Elizabeth Richard and husband David, and Kathleen Bredehoeft and husband Ken.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the ICU Memorial Hospital Staff and Harbor Hospice staff in Lake Charles along with the caring personnel at the VA home in Jennings.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning at First Baptist Church in Jennings, Louisiana at 8:30 a.m., with a service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A burial is to follow at Thornwell Cemetery, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
