Frances “Fran” Copeland (Stopera), 80, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, surrounded by family.
Fran was a graduate of Cohoes High School. She worked for NY State for more than 20 years before becoming a homemaker. As her daughter got older, she started a new career at Comfortex before retiring. She was an avid baseball fan never missing a Yankee game.
She is predeceased by her brother Barney as well as her parents Frank and Irene Stopera.
Frances is survived by her daughter Erica (Humberto) Mendoza and her two grandchildren, Leila and Liam of Ballston Lake. She is also survived by her sister Dot (Karl) Guire of Albany, sister Mary (Al) Longtin of Cohoes, brother Joe (Paula) Stopera of Brunswick, brother Frank Stopera of Albany, brother Stan (Lystra) Stopera of Watervliet, brother Karl Stopera of Cohoes, sister Linda Stopera of Cohoes, sister Yvonne (Kevin) Place of Cohoes and brother Jeff Stopera of Cohoes. In addition to many nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.
A visitation will be held on February 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a service to immediately follow at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY 12189. Burial will be in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s name to the American Cancer Society.
