John F. "Sonny" Darwak

COHOES John F. "Sonny" Darwak, 90, passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2026 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Born and educated in Cohoes, Sonny was a proud lifelong resident of the city. Upon graduating from Cohoes High School in 1953, he went to work at Barclay Home Products where he was employed for 38 years until his retirement.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was very athletic and devoted many years to weight lifting and boxing. He was a member of the PNA in Cohoes, belonged to dart leagues at the PAA on Willow Street and at Joe's Tavern in Cohoes. He also played softball with a work league in his younger years, and he was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Sonny was the son of the late John Darwak and Mary Koblensky Darwak and the brother of the late Robert Darwak and Joseph Darwak (late Donna).

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Geraldine Fiset Darwak; by his beloved children, Patricia Woods (John) of Collierville, TN, David Darwak (Robin Beach) of Cohoes, Steven Darwak (Tracy) of Cohoes, and John Darwak (Christine) of Simpsonville, SC; his sister, Carol Paskin of Cohoes; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Darwak. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 -7 p.m.
