Obzud, Michael J. "Mick" Sr.
COHOES - Michael J. "Mick" Obzud Sr., 78, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, January 26, 2026, at his residence.
Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Michael and Doris Connors Obzud; and husband of the late Gloria Valigorsky Obzud.
Mick graduated from St. Michael's School, Keveny Memorial Academy and Penn State University. He worked his entire life as a sprinkler fitter with Local 669. He retired from Matthews Sprinklers in Troy, and had been employed at RBM in Albany prior to that.
He was an avid train enthusiast, who especially enjoyed collecting Lionel trains and building model railroads. He also enjoyed doing puzzles, collecting coins and baseball cards, and building Lego models. He loved spending time in his garden and backyard, and going on trips to the casino.
Mick took great pride in his family, and simply enjoyed being a good father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved children, Tammy A. Obzud, Michael J. Obzud Jr. (Elizabeth), and Brian M. Obzud (Rebecca), all of Cohoes; by his grandchildren, Cody and Kayla Obzud; and by his loving companion, Patty Martone. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Doris Ziegler.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m., from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, and at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
