Lorie Bowerman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home - Fultonville on Mar. 13, 2026.
Lorie Lynn Bowerman passed peacefully at the age of 65 with her family at her bedside at her home in Marshville, NY early Thursday morning, March 12, 2026.

Lorie was born October 12, 1960 in Little Falls, NY the daughter of Wanda Marie (Morse) Barton and John Harry Barton. She attended and graduated from St. Johnsville Central Schools. After graduating high school and BOCES (with a certificate in cosmetology) she went on to further her education by attending FMCC and earned a Certificate as a Physical Therapist Aide in 1993. She also participated in an internship for the Physical Therapy Program at Little Falls Hospital from 1992 to 1994. Lorie again graduated from FMCC in 2000 with an A.A.S. degree in Early Education.

Lorie married James (Jim) Bowerman on September 10, 1983 and after residing in a few homes in the Canajoharie, NY area they settled and built their dream home on a few acres of land bought from Jim's father and she had resided there until the time of her death. She took great pride in the home she and Jim designed. They raised two daughters, Kari Lynn and Kelsey Marie of whom she was extremely proud. She took great delight in any chance to visit with her daughters and grandchildren.

Although Lorie worked at many locations throughout the years the highlights of her career would have been the years spent as direct support staff and assistant residential manager for Liberty Enterprises, as Head Start Program teacher in Schenectady, as an after school program teacher assistant and residential support staff for Mental Health Associations of Johnstown and Amsterdam, and as one of the teachers at Happy Clown Nursery School in Fort Plain. Out of all of her titles as daughter, mother, sister, wife, factory worker, hair dresser, aide, teacher, counselor and many others, working with children in a pre-school setting was her favorite.

Lorie throughout her life collected apple items, snowmen, and bears. Many were made by herself during years of ceramics classes. In the last couple years, short trips and visits to her family were enjoyed. Until very recently meals and her grandkids were the highlight of her day!

The family would like to acknowledge the kindness shown to Lorie by CNA's Jamie, Tina, Sheena and Neidy. Cindy Fredericks, Nancy Moyer, Belinda Bowerman, Christine Rush, Kathy Rouse, sisters Tina and Dawn were also a big help for Jim in caring for Lorie. The family would also like to express gratefulness for all the friends and family who visited, brought food, or always had Lorie in their thoughts. A special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice, Nurse Katie, sister-in-law Chris Rush and sister Dawn Colegrove for making her passing easier.

Lorie was predeceased by her parents and two nephews, Damien Barton and Chad Nichols. She is survived by her husband James (Jim) H. Bowerman and her children: Kari Lynn Rouse (Brett) and Kelsey Marie Masterson (Barry); grandchildren Isabella Brooke Rouse, Cullen James Masterson and Camden Hayes Masterson. She is also survived by seven siblings: David Barton (Lori) in Gloversville, Melissa Barton in Palatine Bridge, John Barton (Evelyn) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dawn Colegrove (Randy) in Canajoharie, Mark Barton (Terri) in Starkville, Tina Stewart in Canajoharie, and Heidi Nichols (Chuck Dygert) in Fort Plain. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12 PM following the conclusion of calling hours. Interment will take place later this spring at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
