Frances Dahl
Frances Dahl, 104, of Cooperstown, ND left us to be with the Lord on August 26, 2025. at Dakota Regional Medical Center, Cooperstown, ND.
Frances Helen Bata was born January 29, 1921, to Charley and Alvina (Pitra) Bata on a rural farm near Kensal, ND. She attended a rural school in Bucephalia Township in Foster County, ND. Family finances were limited during the 1930’s with little to spare for high school tuition. So, for Frances, work-life began early. She completed her high school education by correspondence while working in Fargo, ND. She went on to graduate from Dakota Business College in Fargo.
While working at Reinhard Brothers, Inc. in Fargo, Frances answered a higher call and enlisted in the US Navy as a Wave. She was stationed in Washington, DC to work in Communication and Demobilization Control. She was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 as Yeoman Second Class but re-enlisted for three more years in the Navy Reserve. Following her military service, she continued her education at the Academy of Accounting in Minneapolis, MN earning a CPA degree. Frances then moved to Jamestown, ND where she worked in the Coca Cola Company’s business offices until 1953.
Frances married Clifford Dahl on November 25, 1953, at St. John’s Chapel in Kensal, ND. She lived on the family farm located northeasterly of Cooperstown, ND for over 27 years until they retired in 1982. Clifford and Frances recruited their four sons to assist in constructing a new house in Cooperstown, ND to which they moved to during the spring of 1983.
Frances was a devout and devoted member of St. George Catholic Church in Cooperstown, ND, and was a very active member of St. Mary Theresa Circle. Beginning in 1986, Frances and Clifford started spending winters in Arizona and California with their sons and families. Frances loved dancing, traveling, baking, sewing, reading, gardening, playing cards, word Scramble, Sudoku puzzles and visiting with family, friends, and relatives. In her later years, she found joy in staying connected with loved ones via her computer and cell phone.
Frances will be missed by her four sons, Wayne (Mary) Dahl, Fargo, ND; John Dahl, Fargo, ND; Thomas (Ardys) Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; and Kevin (Roxanne) Dahl, Yuma, AZ; Six granddaughters, Ashley (Dahl) Sather, Valley City, ND, Patricia (Dahl) Marsh, Lafayette, CO, Dr. Lisa Dahl, Denver, CO, Nicole (Dahl) Duran, Tempe, AZ; Kathryn( Dahl) Landry, Jacksonville, NC and Angela (Dahl) Meehan, Page, ND; six great grandsons, a sister, Helen Schlotman, New Rockford, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clifford, her parents, sisters Maxine, Val, Rose, JoAnn and Arlene and brothers Gary and Charles.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 5:00 till 7:00 pm. A Rosary will be at 6:30 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm in St. George Catholic Church. Cooperstown, ND. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 10:30 am in St. George Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. George’s Perpetual Cemetery Fund Box 217 Cooperstown, ND in memory of Frances.
