Frances GARBAN Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

Frances Carver Garban, 89, of Atlanta passed away Saturday, the 4th of May 2013 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Frank Rudolph Garban and a grandson William Bradford Townsend. She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Margaret and Jim Fears of Sanford, FL, Gail and Jeff Weekley of Atlanta, Mary and Ray Dlugos of Charlotte, NC, and Carrie and Ted Schweers of Atlanta, eleven grandchildren and two great - grandchildren. She was born in Willacoochee, Georgia in 1924, to Jesse and Abbie King Carver. She attended Georgia Southern and South Georgia Colleges before graduating from secretarial school in Baltimore, MD. Her adventurism spirit lead her to New York City, where she met the love of her life Frank. After 20 years and the birth of 4 daughters, in Port Washington, NY, the family relocated to Atlanta. Throughout her long and active life, her family was her first priority. There was no challenge she could not meet, because of her take charge and can do attitude. Later in life, she actively pursued a career in Interior Design including the interiors of St. James church that she was an active member of for over 40 years. Funeral services celebrating her life will be conducted Wednesday, the 8th of May at one o'clock at St. James United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to St. James United Methodist Church, 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody, Atlanta, GA 30342. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family Tuesday evening from six until eight o'clock at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

I realized yesterday when I passed her room at Belmont that Miss Frances was not there. The desk told me she has passed. Nora told me about a conversation Miss Frances and my mother, Ruth Ann, had a couple of weeks ago about seeing each other in heaven later. My Mother is still holding her own but getting older. She will be 96 this month. She enjoyed your mother's friendship. Miss Frances was a wonderful lady and loved all you girls very much.

Thank you for your friendship,

Charlie Pannell

Mrs. Garban, which is what I called her since age 3, was a wonderful, devoted mother and wife. She was like second mother to me. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Margaret, Gail, Mary and Carrie on the loss of their beautiful mother. She is a part of you and who you are, she's in your heart and will always be with you. Much love, Joey

Frances Garban was a beautiful person and she was my friend. I met her during the last few years of her life. She would tell me about each of her daughters and remember the greatness of each. She gave her all the credit to her husband. In the end she wanted her family to remember that although there are many material blessing the most important thing was to love your family. I am blessed by your family. My prayer are with you.

Frances was a beautiful person and she was my friend. I met Frances during the last few years of her life. She taught me many things. She would think about one daughter and say she was my favorite, Then she would tell me all the wonderful things about that daughter and then remember another daughter and say she was my favorite, Then she would tell me all the wonderful things about that daughter. After talking about each one, she would finally decide each one of her daughters is her favorite in her special way. She always gave her husband the credit for the greatness she saw in each of her daughters . In the end she wanted her family to understand that their are many material blessings in this life but the most important thing is to love your family and be good to your children, Frances was a beautiful person and she was my friend. I am so thankful to have been with your family and love you all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
As a 20 year resident of the Benton Woods Neighborhood, we have enjoyed numerous "visits" with your Mom as we strolled the neighborhood in the evenings. Always engaging, we enjoyed sharing neighborhood news and other stories, especially of your cousin Roy, with whom I have worked with for 20 years as well. We will miss her.
