Frances Greer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Gardens Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematory on Sep. 28, 2024.
Frances Roberta Greer, of Niceville, FL born on June 5, 1942, in Moss Point, MS, passed away on September 27, 2024. She was a devoted Christian and a longstanding member of Southern Baptist Churches throughout her life. Her church membership was with Village Baptist Church in Destin, FL.
Fran was known for her incredible spirit, generous heart, and a passion for serving others. She was deeply proud of her volunteer work, which included managing refugee camps while stationed overseas and actively participating in various youth groups. Fran contributed to local organizations including the VGNSA girls' softball organization and Masonic youth groups Rainbow and DeMolay. Her love for music was exemplified through directing several choirs, including the Eglin Officers Wives Club Balladeers and church groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred West Powell and Marion Judson Downing, and her beloved husband, Lt. Col. Clifford G. Greer Jr., whom she married in 1962. Married together almost 42 years and they spent 14 years living overseas at various Air Force bases, creating cherished memories as they traveled, gardened, and enjoyed reading together.
Fran is survived by her three children: Clifford G. Greer III "Gary" and Tina, Carolyn Brooks Patterson and Billy, and Michael Judson Greer "Judd" and Robyn. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Alex, Conner, Lindsay, Chad, Riley, Molly, and Avery, as well as two great-granddaughters, Magnolia Mae and Madilyn Ann. Fran was the first of five siblings and is survived by her brothers, David Powell, Richard Powell, and her sister, Sandra Foss.
She worked as a seamstress for most of her life and mastered the skill of Hawaiian quilt making. She was a regular go-to person in her communities to repair uniforms, dresses, and create clothing for all occasions. She helped for years at NWFL State College for their summer musicals in the costume department. Over the years she has been a homemaker and employed at various retail and service related vocations.
A previous member of The Order of Amaranth and the Order of Eastern Star, Fran's legacy of generosity and hospitality will be remembered by all who knew her. She had a unique flair for cooking, especially for large gatherings, often serving an abundance of Southern and Oriental dishes, along with beautifully decorated settings for every event.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation or the Masonic Youth Scholarship Fund. Fran will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
