Sarah Frances Helton passed away in her home on August 23, 2024, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She was born on October 13, 1932, in Montgomery County, Virginia, to Melvin and Brucie Stewart. She retired from Lucia, Inc. as a supervisor after 35 years.
She was surrounded by loved ones and friends until her death. She was loved by so many and will truly be missed by all. We were all blessed to have her as a Mom, Nanny, Granny, friend and sister. She brought so much laughter into our lives. We all loved and laughed at her sneakiness, even at 91. The first comment from anyone was always what a “sweet” lady she was.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Cyrus Helton; her parents, Melvin and Brucie Stewart; and two brothers, Freddie and Kenny Stewart.
Surviving are two daughters, Dottie Helton and Shirley Smith (Willie); grandson, William Standard; granddaughter, Somer Randolph (Ted); three great-grandchildren, Asher, Aubryn, and Aniston Randolph (if you wanted to make her day, let her see, talk, or hear stories about them!); her most cherished sister, Nancy Shank, of Salem, Virginia; and her caregiver, Bill Crowder, who is very dear to our family.
She is also survived by her adopted family, Dr. Carl E. Peoples III, DDS, wife Sahanna, and their children, Langston, Maya, and Bodhi; as well as Tha Tha & GiGi (Mr. and Mrs. Vijay). She especially valued the special bond she had with Maya, as well as their secrets.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Bob Whitaker officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
