Frances C. "Fran" Hines Frances C. "Fran" Hines, 83, of Magnolia, wife of the late Paul E. Hines, Jr. died on Wednesday, June 15, 2011. A life-long resident of Magnolia, Mrs. Hines was the daughter of the late Albert L. and Mary B. (Dunning) West Sr. Mrs. Hines was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1946 and attended Bryant and Stratton Business College. She had a great love for her family, church and community. Mrs. Hines worked many years for Peter Smith Publisher of Magnolia, Cape Ann Forge, Division of Standex International as an accountant and retired from Addison Gilbert Hospital in 1998 as an administrative assistant. Over the years, Mrs. Hines was always active in community affairs. She was a long time active member of the former St. Joseph's Chapel in Magnolia, where she was on the Chapel Community Commission and St. Joseph's Guild and worked on many summer fairs over the years and also headed up the 85th Anniversary Party of the Chapel. She was Past President of the Women's Community Club of Magnolia, the Magnolia Library Center, the Magnolia Historical Society, was a charter member of the Magnolia Neighborhood Association. In 1982, Mrs. Hines started the Magnolia Historical Museum and was a founding member of the Magnolia Historical Society, where she served 15 years as curator. She was chairman of Magnolia Heritage Days in 1984, chairman of the 100th Anniversary Committee of the Magnolia Library Center in 1987 and in 1989 was selected "Distinguished Citizen of Magnolia" for her over 35 years contribution to her community. She received a citation from the then Gov. Michael Dukakis and the House of Representatives. In 1993, Mrs. Hines was elected Magnolia Library Women of the year. In 2004, Mrs. Hines was recognized by the Gloucester City Council for the work and betterment of her community also in 2004, she received the Preservation Award from the Gloucester Historical Commission in recognition of her contribution to the Magnolia Historical Society. In 2007, the Board of Directors of the Magnolia Library Center named the historical room in her honor. Mrs. Hines is survived by five daughters, Carol Keyes and her husband Kenneth of Inverness, Florida, Sally Peek and her husband Sandford of Magnolia, Susan Pierce of Shapleigh, Maine, Cynthia Hines of Danvers and Sandra Vasapoli and her husband Michael of Magnolia. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Michael Reardon of New York, Mark Reardon and his wife Tracy of Beverly, Kenneth Keyes of Florida, Lisa Ramos and her husband Michael of Gloucester, Rick Peek and Megan Gove of Magnolia, Carrie McConologue and her husband Eddie of Maine, Joseph Pierce of Maine, Christopher Cox of Danvers, Nicole Vasapoli and Thomas Vasapoli both of Magnolia; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert L. West, Jr. of Magnolia and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, John West; a granddaughter, Kristen Keyes Gillis; a great-grandson, Hyden C. Gilliss and son-in-law, Arnold Pierce. Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, on Saturday, June 18, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joachim's Church, Holy Family Parish, Broadway, Rockport, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in the family lot at Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
