Frances Homberger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beach Funeral Home - East - Satellite Beach on Mar. 4, 2024.
Obituary of Frances Marie Homberger
Frances Smith Homberger, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away February 8 in Satellite Beach Florida, just shy of her 90 birthday.
Frances was born in Miami March 19, 1934 to Ralph and Lillian Smith and was the eldest of her sisters Dorothy and Ann. Fran was a true "Miama" girl growing up in the shadow of the Orange Bowl, riding city buses to South Beach and to dances around town. She excelled in middle school sports and was a proud graduate of Miami High.
Married in 1956 to Thomas P Homberger, she and Tom raised a family of three children, Jeffery, Karen, and Thomas, in Hialeah, Florida. Fran became a very independent woman developing a career in management at Southern Bell. Fran relocated to Southwest Florida in the early 1990's to care for her aging parents, eventually settling in the Lexington Country Club of South Ft Myers.
While her family grew to include 8 grandchildren (Dominique, Cheyne, Brett, Brian, Eric, Ethan, Samantha and Jake), she developed close friendships in the Lexington community playing sports and volunteering. Some of her favorite activities included excursions and participation in the Boat Club, bocce league, and euchre, while also supporting volunteer activities at Lee Health Consignment Store. Fran received recognition for 500 hours of volunteer service.
Her family continued to grow to include 6 great-grandchildren (Sadie, Ryder, Robin, Fiona, Eleonor and Leila). Fran loved her family and friends and was always interested in updates on each of their careers, activities, and pursuits. Forever a sports addict she followed the seasons of the Miami Dolphins, the Heat, and was always up to date with the latest news in Tennis, the NBA and college football.
Fran relocated to the East Coast of Florida following hurricane Ian where she spent the past year and a half with family and children.
A memorial service will be held at St Mark's Episcopal Church in Palm Beach Gardens Sunday March 17 at 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life reception at Seasons 52 Restaurant from 2:30 – 4:00 pm. St Marks Church is located at 3395 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, Fl 33410.

We miss Fran each November & December when we journey from our home in Rogersville, Missouri to Ft. Myers & Lexington CC. She always told us (& we felt the same)we were like family. We loved Fran dearly...we miss the sign on the front door when we get to the condo "Welcome home" - she always wrote that note & taped it to the door. It was a joy knowing she was next door - we had many pleasant conversations & shared meals with her.
The photo was taken in November, 2011.

Steve always helped her out by doing little odd jobs she needed.
We join you in sadness, & miss her dearly.

I am so sorry to hear that Fran passed away. We didn't know each other well, however, I was fortunate to play Bocce with her for a few years. I loved seeing her. Fran was so talented at Bocce. More than that she was just a lovely elegant woman with incredible sportsmanship. Ian was really hard on the Lexington Community and Lee County. I am so happy that you were all together after Ian.
My heart goes out to all of you. Susie Kennedy, Lexington CC

Fran ran our Wednesday Euchre group for years and years. She was a wonderfully warm person and has been so missed at Lexington this past year and a half.
