She was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Elk Rapids, to Marion and Lillian (Sutter) Powell. On March 1, 1949, Frances married Keith Sheldon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids.
Frances spent her life raising and taking care of her 10 children and the many grandchildren that she loved so dearly.
Along with her husband, she co-owned and operated the Knollwood Motel and Shadowland Motor Lodge for over 25 years.
Frances enjoyed her dolls and cooking for all those who visited.
She is survived by her loving husband, Keith; 10 children, Don (Charlene) of Traverse City, Linda (Richard) Sleder of Traverse City, Gregory (Kathy) of Traverse City, Gary of Kalkaska, Keiren (Ken) Snyder of Marion, Kevin (Una) of Tampa, Fla., Bruce (Melanie) of Valparaiso, Ind., Diane (Marvin) Hagelberg of Traverse City, Sharon (Phil) Mooney of Shelby Twp. and Shawn (Jennifer) of Cheboygan; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, James (Phyllis) Powell, Vera (Barry) Reese, Mildred (Robert) Hvizdos, David Lyle (Odessa) Powell, Albert (Karen) Powell and Alice (Larry) Bargy.
Besides her parents, Frances was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Powell; and a sister, Evelyn Stites.
A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at 2 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. There will be visitation from noon until the time of service. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Frances' memory may be directed to American Heart Association.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
