Frances "Judy" (Perry) Smith, 80, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1st, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 23, 1945, in
Lewiston, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Guy and June (Leahey) Randazo.
Judy was born in Maine and moved with her parents to Lawrence Avenue in Milford when she was ten years old. She attended Calf Pen Meadow Grammar School and Milford High School, walking to school for afternoon sessions when enrollment was at capacity.
She worked as an inspector at Milford Rivet Machine Company, spent over 25 years at Howard Johnson's Restaurant, and after its closure, went on to work at Milford ShopRite for more than 20 years, the last ten of which were in the floral department. Judy greeted everyone with kindness and a warm smile and was loved by all who knew her.
Gardening was her greatest passion, and she was especially proud of her dahlias. She planted them every year, entered them in the Orange County Fair, and won numerous first-place awards. Judy was a devoted single mother to four active children and could always be found cheering from the sidelines at football, baseball, softball, and soccer games. She created many fond memories fishing and antiquing in Cornwall, Connecticut, as well as Vermont and New Hampshire.
Judy coached softball and served as a Cub Scout leader. She loved all things related to nature-her yard was always filled with bird feeders. Each morning, she enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels, whose songs and playful chatter brought her great joy. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in the sunshine and taking drives along the Connecticut coastline. She was also an avid Boston sports fan, faithfully watching the Red Sox, Celtics, and New England Patriots.
Judy is survived by her two daughters, Theresa Phelan (Daniel) and Jennifer Smith; her grandchildren, Zachary Phelan (Sarah), Shannon Stultz (James), Sophia, and Brody Perry; and her great-grandchildren, Max, Josie, and newest addition, Grace. She also leaves behind her cherished cousin, John Clark, and her grand dog, Roxie.
She was greeted with open arms in heaven by her two sons, Joseph and Brad. She was also predeceased by her parents, her special Aunt Thelma, and her cousin Jim.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the ICU team at the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital, especially Dr. Mark Andreae, Olivia, Jessie, and Erin, for their exceptional compassion and care.
