Frances Spaulding, age 94, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Frances was born on December 30, 1931, in Easton, Illinois, the daughter of John and Julia (Drohan) Cunningham and later married Floyd Spaulding on September 14, 1957.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Floyd, also her parents, brother and sister-in-law Paul and Pat Cunningham and sister Margaret Lively, a daughter Teresa at age 4 to heart condition and two sons Bobby in 1997 and John “JS” in 2022.
Mourning her passing are two daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Wiss of O’Fallon, MO and Alice Larnerd of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Zacharia Spaulding, Jade (Jimmie) Thomas, Celia (Ben) Lanctot, Guy (Rachel) Wiss, Garrett (Sarann) Wiss, Alexandra Martin and Maxwell Martin; four great-granddaughters, Nikki Spaulding, Emma and Hunter Thomas, and Maddie Spaulding; and also by the children of her heart; Cheryl & Bob Pinkston, and Michael Meehan and many great grandpuppies.
Frances worked at Frank Rosenberg, Inc. and Saldwedel/Borden Dairy in Pekin, IL. In later years she worked at Kirby’s Department store, Floyd’s Insurance Office and volunteered for many years at Daily Bread and food bank programs in Greenview. She is a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church in Petersburg, Menard County Historical Society and Greenview AmVet Auxiliary, Post 179.
Frances and Floyd chose to be laid to rest together. The family will receive friends with a funeral mass for both Frances and Floyd at Holy Family Catholic Church, 309 N. Springfield Road, Athens, Illinois on Saturday, March 21, 2026 with a visitation starting at 8:00 AM until time of funeral mass at 10:00 AM.
A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at 11:30 AM at AmVet Post #179, Greenview, Illinois.
