Frances Nadine (Slaughter) Stein, age 89 of Moberly, MO passed away on August 15, 2023, at Boone Hospital. Frances was born on September 23, 1933.
She was raised in Moberly, MO by her mother Gladys Hicks and step-father Bert Guittar. She graduated from the Lower Division of Moberly Junior College.
Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a sweet and gentle friend to many. In addition to the upkeep of her family and home, she worked as a bookkeeper at Community Hospital (now Moberly Regional Medical Center). She also worked with the Triangle Supply Company, and B&B Theaters. Her family and friends will always remember her love of nature, summers spent camping at Thomas Hill Lake, playing charades at family gatherings and rowdy card games. After retirement, Frances enjoyed weekly “Thursday Lunches” with her children and grandchildren. She also loved time spent with her girlfriends bowling at Community Lanes, playing cards (especially on New Year’s Eve) and visiting her friend Shirley’s home. Frances was a member of the YMCA and enjoyed her time doing water aerobics and swimming. She also used to frequent the “boat” casino in Boonville, MO, and loved bringing home more winnings than her sister, Jo.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keven, sister Mary Jo McNear, daughter Vicky Haggard, son-in-law, Bob Milby and niece Debi Moreno.
Survivors include daughters, Kevelyn (Bill) Huntsman of Liberty, MO, Paula (Scott) Naylor of Irving, TX, and son William D. (Leah) Stein of Moberly, MO. Grandchildren, Luke Haggard of Jefferson City, MO, Jordan (Nathan) Holtzclaw of Columbia, MO, Hannah (Tyler) Price of Moberly, MO, William M. (Azalee) Stein of Moberly, MO, brother, Michael Guittar (Terra) of New Bloomfield, MO. Her nieces include Tina Miller of Columbia, MO, and Christie Dawkins (David) and their children, Billy Dawkins and Amy Dawkins. Great Grandchildren, Fyuree, Gracie, Gaberiel and Bobby Haggard, Ezekiel and Lydia Price, Samuel and Tillie Holtzclaw, Titus and Aubrielle Joanna “AJ” Stein. Frances is also survived by a niece, Michelle Brooks (Jon) of Moberly, and nephew, Mitchell Stein Sr. (Penny Castle) of Reseda, CA as well as other great nieces and nephews in California.
A Memorial Service commemorating Frances’ life has been scheduled August 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel, Moberly, MO. Visitation will be held August 26, 2023, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Donations may be sent to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Frances’s memory (www.cff.org/donate).
