Francis "Evelyn" Chamlee

Francis "Evelyn" Laney Chamlee, 95, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025 in Cape Coral, Florida, with family by her side.
Evelyn was born Aug. 31, 1929 in Jackson County, Alabama to Roscoe and Estella Laney. She graduated from Pisgah High School in 1948 and married the following day. She was a homemaker and was gifted at cooking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She obtained her cosmetology license in 1975 and set up shop in her home. She was a woman of faith and enjoyed attending church and singing hymns.
She and her husband, Raymond Alvis Chamlee, were married for 74 years before his passing in 2022. They made their home in Michigan, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her four children, Bobby Chamlee, Theresa (Bill) Jarosz, David Chamlee and Darlene (Ken) Smith; five grandchildren, Bobby Chamlee Jr., Chad (Destinee) Chamlee, Scott (Yanesa) Chamlee, Kendra (Madi) Smith and Laney Smith; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alean Gorham and Ila Mae Hart. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother, Vertis Headrick and Wayne Laney.
Evelyn was admired for her calm presence and gentle spirit. Throughout her life, people who knew or even briefly encountered her remarked at how sweet she was. She truly left the greatest example of patience and unconditional love. God received an angel at heaven's gates upon her arrival. Well done faithful servant, you lived a life of grace and love.
A celebration of life will be held at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 2PM.
Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery with Rainsville Funeral Home, Inc. directing, www.rainsvillefunerlahome.com. Mrs. Chamlee's family will receive friends from 1PM-2PM.
