Francis C. "Chup" Madeira, 79, of Mertztown, died peacefully, July 17, 2025, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where he had been a patient three weeks. He was the loving husband of Joanne C. (Lesher) Madeira. They were married August 7, 1965. Born in Allentown, Francis was a son of the late Harold and Esther (Geiger) Madeira.
Francis was first employed for the former Wenton Shoe Company, Kutztown; then Carl Weber Steel Company, Kutztown; Caloric Corporation, at its former Topton plant; Fleetwood Snacks, Fleetwood; and he retired from the former Kutztown Publishing Company, Kutztown.
Chup enjoyed classic cars, especially his '57 Chevy. He enjoyed attending car shows, proudly exhibiting his car. He was a fan of drag racing and attending and watching those events. Chup also enjoyed word search puzzles.
In addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, Chup is survived by his children: Sheila G. (Madeira), wife of Mark T. Carter, York, SC; Melissa A. (Madeira), wife of Richard M. Freese, Shoemakersville; and Adam T., husband of Dawn L. (Bartholomew) Madeira, Mertztown. Other survivors include two sisters, Charlotte (Madeira), widow of Robert Mengel, Kutztown; and Loretta (Madeira), wife of Dennis Heffner, Kutztown; and a brother, Harold, Jr., husband of Lori Madeira, Kutztown. There are two grandchildren, Jocilyn E. (Kohler), wife of Joshua A. Merritt; and Benjamin E., husband of Carley F. (Newman) Kohler; and two great grandchildren, Kiley C. Merritt and Reid E. Merritt.
Services for Chup will be private at the convenience of the family.
