Francis J. Mattson, 84, of Hubbardston, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Born in Worcester on May 22, 1941, Francis was the son of the late Hilding and Nellie (Noles) Mattson. He was a proud graduate of Clark University, where he earned his bachelor's degree-an achievement he carried with quiet pride throughout his life. Prior to his retirement, Francis worked as an independent contractor for Simon Paper Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
Francis enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and proudly served in Army Intelligence while stationed in Okinawa.
Francis is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Fran (Brasiskis) Mattson, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories.
A man known for his loving, kind heart and remarkable patience, Francis will be deeply missed by his children and grandchildren, with whom he treasured spending time. Some of their fondest memories include days spent fishing together and simple stops along the railroad tracks to watch the trains pass by.
Beside for his wife, Francis is survived by four children; Lynn-Marie Tervo, Leigh Moore, and twin boys, Pete and Jim Mattson; ten grandchildren, Erick and Zachary Tervo, Alex, Emily, Grace, Greg, and Ben Mattson, Thomas, Jack, and Ryan Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Miles and Weston Moore.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231. Please reference in memory of Francis. J. Mattson.
