Francis Torcia Obituary

Francis Torcia 1944 - 2023 East Longmeadow Francis Torcia, 78, passed away on March 23, 2023 with his loving family at his side. Francis was born in Springfield, MA, son of the late Michael and Anna (Curto) Torcia and was a resident of East Longmeadow for over 30 years. He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Commerce High School, where he met, and soon after married, his sweetheart Mary Cignoli. He was employed as an iron worker and the store owner of the Newshop in Springfield. He also worked as a field service manager for the Massachusetts State Lottery until his retirement. Francis will forever be remembered as a fiercely loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Francis loved sports and followed all of the New England teams. He coached youth sports in baseball and hockey. Most of his time was spent with his family and grandchildren, his true passion and love. He would be with them every chance he had and attended many of their activities. He was often found at Koffee Tyme after such activities, commiserating with old friends. Francis is survived by his loving children: son Robert Torcia of East Longmeadow and two daughters, Karen and her husband Paul Iellamo of Longmeadow and Maria and her husband Kevin LaBrie of Longmeadow and six adored grandchildren: Mary, Paul, Frankie, Vanessa, Brady, and Jake. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Mary S. (Cignoli) Torcia, his brother Michael A. Torcia, and his sister Phyllis Santaniello. His family is grateful for the care from the staff at the ICU and South Wing at Baystate Medical Center. Funeral services begin at 8:45 am on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from Forastiere Smith Funeral Home on 220 North Main Street in East Longmeadow, followed by a 10:00 am funeral mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the funeral home. We are grateful to have known such genuine and caring man. I will never forget him helping us renovate our front yard. He manned his Bobcat like a Ninja (in his slacks and loafers, no less). He was so kind to our children and treated them like his own grandchildren ... always a Powerade after a hockey game or a cheer during baseball. We know how much he will be missed by his family and loved ones, and send our deepest condolences. Rest in peace, Nunu.

Paul and family sorry to hear about your loss, Frank was a tough guy but honest and you knew where you stood, I was working for Paul , and late one day everyone was gone home . They delivered cabinets, left them in the driveway, so I helped him put them in the garage he thanked me and we became good friends .
