Francisca Lopez, 95, of La Pryor, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2025, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
She was a beacon of love, faith, and service throughout her life.
Born on March 9, 1929, in D’Hanis, Texas, she was the daughter of Leocadia (Bermea) and Andres Avelino Del Toro.
Francisca was known for her unwavering devotion to God and her tireless efforts to help those in need. Her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of freshly baked homemade pies, baked goods, soups and fresh tortillas, a testament to her passion for cooking and her desire to nourish both body and soul. Francisca lived a full and vibrant life, cherishing her family and the community of La Pryor.
Francisa found solace and delight in tending to her beloved garden and sewing. Her handmade quilts and lovingly crafted clothing were cherished gifts that will continue to warm hearts and homes for generations to come.
A dedicated animal lover, Francisca found joy in caring for her animals. Her gentle touch and kind words could soothe even the most anxious creature, a gift she extended to humans in need as well.
Throughout her life Francisca was a pillar of strength for her family and community, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer comforting words. She was particularly devoted to caring for the sick, offering prayers, homemade soup, and her calming presence.
Francisca’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of Templo Getsemani where she loved to sing and assist with church activities. Her unwavering trust in God’s plan was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Diamantina Steele, Janie Patching and husband, John, and Maria Pargas and husband Alejandro, all of La Pryor; and her three sons, Tirso Lopez and wife Eva of La Pryor, Francisco Lopez of Garden City, and Isidro Lopez and companion Juanita Najera of La Pryor; Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Mary Alvarado of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Maria Lopez of Hereford; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Francisca was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband Inez Lopez, Sr., three sons Pablo Lopez, Guadalupe Lopez and Inez Lopez, Jr., a daughter Francisca Lopez, as well as seven brothers, Reyaldo Del Toro, Andres Del Toro, Raul Del Toro, Arturo Basaldua, Ramon Pargas, Jr., Manuel Pargas, and Jose Pargas; and her sister, Hortencia Basaldua; and grandchildren, Inez Lopez and Abel Longoria.
A visitation honoring her life will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. The funeral procession will depart at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary for a graveside service at La Pryor Cemetery.
Francisca will be dearly missed, but her love and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
