W. STEWARTSTOWN – Françoise J. C. Madore, 83, of West Stewartstown, died early on Wednesday morning, Feb. 22, 2023, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1939, in St. Isidore-Clifton, Quebec, the eldest child of the late Rosaire and Gilberthe (Vaillancourt) Doyon. She attended school as a young girl in St. Isidore and later married Jules Madore in 1960, at which time they emigrated to Vermont and later settled in West Stewartstown.
As their family grew, Fran stayed home to raise the children until they were all in school. She then finished her English education by taking lessons from her neighbor, Addie Gray, and she then became the first bilingual home health aide in the north country. She later became employed at Indian Stream Health Center where she worked for many years.
Françoise was the consummate volunteer, involved in just about everything. She and her husband taught classes for many years from the church for couples who were to be married, she was a member of the Catholic Women's Club and the Canaan Women, and the Madores hosted more than 50 aspiring physician assistant students from Dartmouth Medical School doing clinical rotations in the north country. They also hosted many traveling nurses over the years.
Fran loved to travel, as well, and they took 12 different trips to see the world around them, including trips to Europe, Egypt, Tunisia, a cruise to Alaska, as well as many other places. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, who will be missed by so many.
She is survived by her husband of more than 62 years, Jules Madore of W. Stewartstown; her three children, Carole Lanctot of Somersworth, N.H., Donald Madore (Ninon Sevigny) of Dunham, Que., and Eric Madore of Berwick, Me.; 5 brothers and 4 sisters; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be the next morning, Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Colebrook. Interment will be at a later date in St. Isidore.
During this Lenten season, expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Madore are requested to be made for the benefit of the hospice room at UCVH, 181 Corliss Lane, Colebrook, NH 03576.
