Georgette "Georgie" Lyons, 80, of Pittsburg, N.H., passed away unexpectedly in Manchester, N.H., on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, still full of love, joy, and life. Her vibrant spirit was infectious, and she was cherished by her family and friends.
Born on Nov. 27, 1944, at Brattleboro Hospital, in Vermont, Georgie was the daughter of Lucien and Laurette (Beaudin) Lamy. Raised in Hinsdale, N.H., she grew up in a lively and loving French Canadian home. Her father, affectionately known as "the Turk," was a former professional wrestler who captivated audiences at Madison Square Garden and the Boston Garden. He also helped organize the union at the local paper mill. Georgie's mother came from a large family in Gaspé, Que., where her family owned a steak restaurant.
During her high school years, Georgie faced the loss of her older brother, Andre. In the wake of this tragedy, she stepped into a nurturing role, helping to care for her baby sister, Cami. At 18, Georgie moved to Boston, where she worked as a nanny for former Mayor Kevin White while attending Burdette Secretarial School. She later became a paralegal at Ropes & Gray. Her greatest gift was her ability to connect with people. Georgie treated strangers and family alike with unwavering warmth and kindness, touching everyone she met with her endless stories, sense of humor, and fierce commitment to seeing the glass half full.
In 1964, Georgie's life took a beautiful turn when she met her soulmate, John Lyons, on a blind date in Boston, during which they discovered they had grown up in neighboring Vermont towns. Their instant connection blossomed into a loving marriage in 1965. Together, they raised four children-Dan, Colleen, Matt, and Kaitlyn-in Amherst, N.H., instilling in them the values of love, kindness, and a zest for life. They spent as much time as possible at their camp, Camelot, in Pittsburg, cherishing family moments amidst the natural beauty of the landscape.
Georgie worked as an executive assistant at Hitchiner Manufacturing in Milford, N.H., and at Norden United Technologies in Merrimack, N.H. She had a passion for reading, as well as a keen interest in current events and politics, working for Nashua mayors Jim Donchess and Rob Wagner, and former Governor Hugh Gregg. Her hardworking and warm-hearted nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
After retiring, Georgie and John moved from Amherst to Pittsburg, where they founded Bear Tree Cabins and Murphy's Steakhouse, creating a cherished family legacy and a tight-knit Bear Tree family with coworkers and guests. Georgie's laughter and infectious joy made her a friend to all who knew her. With her youthful spirit and genuine warmth, she made everyone feel special.
Georgie is predeceased by her parents, Lucien and Laurette Lamy; her brothers, Andre and Raymond Lamy; and her devoted husband of 54 years, John Lyons in 2019. She is survived by her four children: Dan Lyons and wife, Kathleen, of Newbury, Mass.; Colleen Ives and husband, Dan, of Manchester, N.H.; Matt Lyons and wife, Cindy, of Amherst, N.H.; and Kaitlyn Davis of Plymouth, Mass.; and her cherished grandchildren: Joseph, Shannon, Norah, Haley, Margaret, Cillian, Declan, Liam, and Teagan. She is also survived by her sister, Cami Paras, and many dear friends whose lives she touched with her love.
