Frank P. Altepeter

Frank P. Altepeter, 86, of Lafayette, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at IU Health Arnett Hospital.
He was born December 18, 1937, in Lafayette to the late Richard P. and Elizabeth (Hughes) Altepeter. He was a 1956 graduate of Shadeland High School and continued his education at Indiana Business College, graduating with an accounting degree in 1958. On July 15, 1967, he married Carolyn "Lynn" Freistroffer at St Mary Cathedral in Lafayette. The couple recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Frank served honorably as a Sergeant in the Army Reserves.
He was employed by Brown Rubber and then for Kettlehut Construction as an Accountant and Office Manager for 50+ years until his retirement. Upon retirement, Frank volunteered his time in the Lafayette Catholic School Development Office which he enjoyed immensely. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Cathedral and was a member of the choir as well as numerous committees. He was an avid supporter of Central Catholic and the Lafayette Catholic School System.
Along with his wife Lynn, he is survived by his 2 children, Ann (Michael) Fritton of Indianapolis and John (Joy) Altepeter of Lafayette; 5 grandchildren, Jack Fritton, Alex Fritton, Matthew Fritton, Griffin Altepeter, and Libby Altepeter; 3 brothers, Tom Altepeter of Indianapolis, Jim (Pat) Altepeter of CO, and David (Linda) Altepeter of FL; sister-in-law, Gail Altepeter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, Richard and Elizabeth Altepeter and a brother, Dan Altepeter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank's name may be given to Lafayette Catholic Schools or to the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909.
Funeral Memorial Mass at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 1207 Columbia St., Lafayette, IN 47901 with Father Ted Dudzinski officiating.
Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, 2122 Old Romney Rd., Lafayette, IN 47909.
