Thomas Yarnall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Soller-Baker Funeral Homes, Inc. – Lafayette Chapel on Feb. 8, 2026.
In Loving Memory of Thomas Francis Yarnall, 76, who passed away February 5th, 2026. He has left behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet impact that will be felt for generations.

Tom was born June 23, 1949 in Cumberland, Maryland. He was a devoted husband and father whose greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Maggie), his sons Donavan (Rachel) and Bradley (Gina), and his grandchildren, Isaac, Ella, Emerson, Alexander, and Jackson, whom he cherished and supported with pride. He is survived by his aunt, Kathryn Bray, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Mary Hopkins, David and Franny Hoefling, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by son, Christian Francis, his mother, Helen, his father, Francis, mother-in-law, Rose Ella Hopkins, father-in-law, Eugene Hopkins, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Denny and Cece Luebke.

A dedicated member of Saint Mary Cathedral, Tom lived his faith through service, commitment, and care for others. His devotion to his church community reflected the values he carried into every part of his life.

One of Tom's greatest passions was coaching his boys in baseball, soccer, and football. To him, coaching was never just about the game, it was about teaching teamwork, perseverance, and integrity. The hours spent at practices and games created lifelong memories and bonds that extended far beyond the scoreboard.

Tom was deeply dedicated to Central Catholic High School, where he generously gave his time and energy to support the football and baseball programs. His commitment reflected his belief in community, mentorship, and helping young athletes grow into confident, capable individuals.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, his encouragement, and the many small moments that meant everything to those who shared them with him-conversations after games, lessons learned through sports, and the unwavering support he offered to family and friends alike.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lafayette Catholic Schools, Riley Children's Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Tippecanoe County CASA.

"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord."

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Friday, February 13, 2026 at St. Mary Cathedral, 1207 Columbia St. Lafayette, IN 47901 with Fr. Ted Dudzinski officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Lafayette.

Billie and I were good friends with Tom and Maggie from college. I will always remember when Tom and I stayed in the same apartment building in Terre Haute and he would have to keep the coal burning furnace stoked with coal so we all would have heat in the winter. He would have to get up in the middle of the night and put more coal in, and I always admired him for his strong work ethic.
I know that Tom was devoted to his family, loved his church, and enjoyed all kinds of sports. We will all miss him.

Maggie and family,
Tom and Maggie have been an awesome loving couple who shared their knowledge with the PreCana couples and parish for years. Tom was so sweet and thoughtful with his advice. He will certainly be missed. We are so sorry for your loss.
Love,
Tim and Mandy Weaver

Tom was an invaluable person in the CC athletic programs, but his most valuable asset was his love for his family and the Lafayette Catholic schools.

A recent treasured memory for me is the presence of Tom and Maggie Yarnell at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, IN for Sister Joyce Brophy´s funeral.

My prayers and love are with Maggie and all of the family and friends of Tom.
