Obituary
Frank Ellis Boynton III peacefully putted out for the last time on Thursday, June 13 in Kerrville, Texas in the presence of his wife, daughter and close friends. He was 87.
Frank, a loving husband, father, mentor, PGA golf professional, story-teller and friend was born in Tampa, Florida on August 26, 1936 to Frank Ellis Boynton Jr. and his wife Patricia Cashett Boynton.
Frank graduated from Edgewater High School in Florida in 1954 and enrolled in Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida when he was offered a golf scholarship. He won the Florida Collegiate Championships twice. In 1956, Frank advanced to the fourth round of the USGA Amateur Championship, losing to the eventual winner, Harvie Ward.
That success propelled him to join the PGA as a touring professional in 1957. He competed on the tour for the next twelve years with a break while serving in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1960. Frank played in 191 PGA sanctioned tournaments and made the cut in 160 of those events. He was most proud of his eighth-place finish in the 1968 PGA tournament. Frank's game depended more on precision than power although he did brag about the time he outdrove Jack Nicklaus; on a par three.
In 1969 he gave up the tournament circuit but not his PGA Professional status and served as the Head Golf Professional at a number of clubs including Tucson National. In 1980 he became the General Manager of Great Hills Golf Club in Austin.
It was there he met Betty Jordan who became his wife on May 1, 1982. Frank left professional golf in 1983 and became a successful Investment Advisor until he passed away.
After spending thirteen years in Dallas, the Hill Country was blessed when the couple moved to Kerrville in 1997. Frank was active in First United Methodist Church. Before his beloved dog, Radar, passed away the pair gave regular children's sermons at the church. They were also active in the Humane Society's Pet Therapy and Canine Literacy Programs.
For all his successes in life, Frank's greatest achievement was fulfilling his goal of making people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Frank Ellis Boynton IV.
Frank is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty, his daughter, Shari Goddard of Kerrville, his granddaughters, Shelby Goddard of Tucson, Ariz., Holly Goddard of Kerrville and countless students and friends.
The tee time and place for a memorial service celebrating Frank's life is Saturday, June 22, 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon at Kerrville First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Dr. A 19th hole reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be given to Kerrville First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

I'm so sorry to learn of Frank's passing. I first met Frank while at Merrill Lynch in 1984. We moved to AG Edwards in 1986 and in the mid 90's traveled to Kerrville to consider setting up an investment shop down there. Needless to say, he did move to Kerrville and regretfully I did not. We lost touch over the years, but I never lost the memories of the fun times we had together and the laughter we shared. My condolences to Betty & Shari. RIP Frank. Steve Pierce

We are so very sorry for your loss Betty! You, and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Frank was such a nice man. You two were some of the first people to welcome us to the neighborhood. It was a pleasure knowing him. We hope the love and support from all your family and friends will carry you through this most difficult time.
