Brenda Light Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright's Funeral Parlor - Kerrville from Feb. 6 to Feb. 10, 2026.
Brenda Maxine Light, lovingly known as Maxine, 75, joined her Heavenly Creator on January 5, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas, surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply.

Maxine was born on December 4, 1950, in Llano, Texas, to Olga Valerie (Brewer) Hamrick and Ira Ray Hamrick. She grew up in Llano and later made Kerrville her home in 1987, where she built a life rooted in faith, service, and family.

In 1968, Maxine married Douglas Roy Light in Llano. Although the marriage did not last, it brought her the three greatest blessings of her life, her daughters. Being a mother was one of her proudest roles, and that love only grew as her family expanded.

Later in life, Maxine followed her calling to care for others by earning her LVN certificate in 1988 from Schreiner University. She devoted 25 years of compassionate service as a nurse at the VA Hospital in Kerrville, where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and genuine concern for those in her care.

Maxine was a devoted member of First Christian Church, where she faithfully volunteered her time and talents, including events like Bows and Bazaar. The relationships she formed through her church were lifelong and meaningful, she didn't consider them friends, but family.

Creativity was woven into who Maxine was. She loved making bracelets, anklets, and key rings, and her daughters fondly remember the nail art she would lovingly do for them when they were little girls. Her heart, however, belonged most fully to her role as "Nena." Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and in her eyes, they could do no wrong.

Maxine had a rare gift for loving people without limits. She would give the shirt off her back, a quality especially evident when she selflessly cared for her sister during illness. Over the years, she gathered countless "adopted" children and family members, living by the belief that family is chosen as much as it is born into. Even during her time in rehabilitation, she continued doing what came naturally, forming deep bonds with the nurses and caregivers who quickly became part of her ever-growing family.

She also dearly loved being a dog mom to her beloved baby boy, Cade.

Maxine is survived by her daughters, Wendy Light, Mendy Light Townsend (Daniel), and April Light; her sister, Evelyn Nance, lovingly known as "Sis"; her grandchildren, Chelsea, Kaylyn, Savanah, Paul, and Cason; her great-grandchildren, Apollo, Delilah, James, Noah, Vivian, and Raven; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her more than words can express.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Charlene Cox and Iris Simpson.
