Frank Charles Dolejsi Jr.

Passed away on January 3, 2026 at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN at the age of 82. He was a resident of St Paul, MN.

Born (01/13/1943) in Omaha, Neb, he was the loving son of Frank Charles Dolejsi, Sr. and Gloria Dolejsi nee Harvat.

Frank earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from University of Wisconsin, La Crosse in 1966. He worked for 47 years in forensics, the first 19 years at the Wisconsin State Crime Lab in Madison, where he served as Chemist, Chief Toxicologist and the Section Head of Micro-Serology. He then moved to St Paul to serve as Associate Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). Frank worked for the BCA for 28 years, retiring as Director of the Forensic Science Service in 2013. He was recognized in a Pioneer Press article on June 8th, 2013 at retirement. When he retired, he became a Master Gardener in 2014 and was an active volunteer with the Ramsey County Master Gardener Program in St Paul, including mentoring new members of the program. He was recognized for 1000+ hours of volunteer service with them in 2020.

He was married to Sharon Mae Dolejsi nee Barkow on November 4, 1978.

American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board. Frank served on the ASCLD/LAB Board of Directors (2003-2009), was Vice-Chair 2005-2007, and was the Chair of the board in 2008. He received an award from them in May, 2013 for significant contributions to quality forensic science. He was also Commissioner of the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) from 2009 to 2011.

When he was growing up in Sparta, Wi, he was an all-around athlete participating in Basketball, Football, and Track. He also had an artistic bent, painting Christmas Murals on his parents' picture window. He was an avid gardener throughout his adult life.

Preceded in death by: Father, Mother, sister, Gaila Horne, and brother-in-Law, Thomas Panek

Survived by: Spouse of 47 years, Sharon Dolejsi of St. Paul, daughters, Annette Dolejsi and Stephanie Dolejsi of Madison, WI, sister Pennie Panek of Ft. Worth, TX, brother Duane Dolejsi and spouse Kathleen Dolejsi of Milbank, SD, six nieces and two nephews.

Visitation and Service information – A celebration of Life for Frank will be held Jan 31, 2026 from 1 to 4 pm at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 1979 Old Hudson Road, St Paul, Mn.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ramsay County Master Gardener Program or Como Friends in memory of Frank.Arrangements are under the direction of the Cremation Society of Minnesota, St. Paul.

I had the privilege of knowing Frank through our U of M Extension gardening program. He was a wonderful volunteer, a supportive friend, and a kind and generous soul. He will be deeply missed.
