Frank Eugene Dotson, 94, went to be with the Lord November 18, 2025 in
Del Rio, Texas. He was born September 17,1931 in
Abilene, Texas. He was the son of Luis Oliver Dotson and Myrtle Ivy Dotson.
Early on in his life, Frank became a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was actively involved in scouting until the age of 90. Later as an adult he helped to establish the boy scout troop in Monahans, Texas. He became a Commissioner and served in that capacity for several years. He was actively involved in the Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch where he loved sharing his scouting skills and personal stories with the kids. One of his greatest achievements was receiving the Silver Beaver Award which recognizes registered scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within the council.
Frank graduated from Odessa High School. Following graduation, he attended Odessa College, Riverside City College, North Texas State College, which is now known as North Texas State University, Sul Ross State College, which is now known as Sul Ross State University and Abilene Christian College, which is now known as Abilene Christian University. He graduated with a BS degree in education from ACC in 1958.
Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1951. After one day of service in the U.S. Army, he had an opportunity to enlist with the United States Marine Corp. There he served 17 months at Kaneohe Bay. He was an Airport Serviceman and served as a member of the crash crew.
While at ACU, he met the woman of his dreams, Joyce Potter. They married at the Chapel on the Hill, University Church of Christ. They celebrated 61 glorious years of marriage on May 28, 2019.
Frank began his career teaching school at Stanford, Texas where he coached football and taught drama. After one year at Stanford, he moved to Ohio where he sold cars. From Ohio, he moved to Charleston, South Carolina. He became a park ranger for the National Park Service at Fort Sumter where he served as a tour guide. Next, Frank and Joyce moved to Monahans, Texas and there he became an English teacher at Monahans High School. Next, he taught arts and crafts at Hudler Junior High School, which is now known as Walker Junior High. Following his teaching career, Frank and Joyce opened the Lobo Center, a variety store that provided home goods, sporting goods and picture framing. After selling the Lobo Center, Frank began Dotson Rentals, his residential rental business. He continued to invest and manage properties until he was 94 years old.
Frank was a devout Christian and worshipped at the 3rd & Dwight Church of Christ where he was a member since 1962. He enjoyed talking to people about the Lord. He encouraged everyone that he came in contact with to put their trust in God. Frank enjoyed sharing his faith with other people. He did this through personal contact, over the phone and by handing out Christian books. He continued ministering to people until he was 94 years old.
Frank brought a good day with him everywhere he went. He had the gift of gab and would talk the legs right off of you if you were not careful. One of his favorite sayings when he was involved in a good conversation and someone needed to go home was "Can we just talk for 2 more minutes?" Often times that turned into 30 minutes. He loved life and he loved people.
Frank chose not to have a funeral he wanted things to be simple. He donated his body to Texas Tech Health Science Center.
Frank is survived by his son Mark Dotson and wife Ashley of
Del Rio, Texas, his daughter Autumn Nichols and husband John of
Del Rio, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Reed Bowman and wife Ashley of McAllister, New Mexico, Marca Grau and husband Colten of Grady New Mexico, Tad Bowman and wife Kaitlyn of Monahans, Texas and Tavin Dotson and wife Melissa of Lubbock, Texas. He is survived by 7 great grandchildren, Toby, Ellie and Beck Bowman of McAlister, New Mexico and Azlin, Axten and Ayzli Grau of Grady New Mexico.
