Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Frank Alvin Gordy, Sr., age 83 of Blackjack Road Louisville who died Wednesday morning September 14, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Underwood and Rev. Ronny Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Lester, Sean Gordy, Brittan Gordy, Bryan Gordy, Patrick Gordy, Glenn Gordy, Daniel Gabriel, Joe Cheeks, Charles Smith, Jr, and Sam Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be David Irwin, Rick McFarland, Quentin Farrer, Dick Newberry, Billy Godowns, Isaiah Thomas, Andy Cobb, Joe Cox, Al McNeely, Joe Foss, Melvin Dye, Bobby Martin, and John Newberry.
Mr. Gordy was a native of Louisville, Georgia and the son of Isaac Alvin Gordy and Emma Ree Walden Gordy. He was a 1957 graduate of Louisville Academy and continued his education at Georgia Southern University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1961 and a Master's in Science Education in 1970. He served as Louisville High School Principal from 1971 to 1988 and was the last elected school superintendent in Jefferson County serving from 1988 to 1992. He also served as Jefferson County Commission Chairman from 1993 to 1996. Frank was a devoted member of Louisville United Methodist Church for more than 70 years where he served as a long time Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Louisville and the Georgia Southern Alumni Association.
Mr. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harris Gordy, Hoyt Gordy, and William Gordy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Patricia McNeely Gordy, sons Frank Alvin Gordy, Jr (Heather), Christopher Blaine Gordy (Tammy), and James Blake Gordy, a daughter Sharon K. Gordy, grandchildren, Sean Gordy (Liz), Bryan Gordy (Juliana), Taylor Kipreos (Chris), Emma Gordy, Brittan Gordy, Mitchell Gabriel, and Daniel Gabriel, along with 8 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many caring employees of both Regency Hospice and Accord Care for providing excellent care and support over the last several months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Louisville United Methodist Church, 301 West 7th Street, Louisville, GA 30434.
The Gordy family will receive friends on Friday, September 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
