Frank Hanigosky entered the world on August 28,1935 with a spatula in one hand, a saw in the other and a Steelers cap on his head.
He was raised on a farm in Uniontown, PA providing him with his lifelong love of the outdoors. He was the second youngest of nine children; all who have proceeded him in death. He was a jack of all trades and a master of many including woodworking, auto repair, cooking, baking, sewing and a general handyman. Upon graduation from high school, his mother sent him packing with his older brother Pete to work at Ford Motor Co in Brook Park, OH where he worked from 1955-1997.
Frank loved, cherished, traveled with, worshiped with, and cared for his wife Joyce (Leonard) Hanigosky for 67 years. Together they explored 48 states and approximately 33 countries. She will need to finish her journey without her soulmate. He raised four successful, strong daughters; Peggy Hanigosky, Dr. Rebecca Hanigosky, Karen Hanigosky-Conrad and Frances (Hanigosky) Schrader, all of who may or may not have spoiled him. He has five grandchildren; Jake and Hannah Alexander, Colin, Jared and Michael Schrader, two great son-in-laws; Tom Conrad and David Schrader and numerous nieces and nephews whom added joy to his life.
He was a devoted worshiper of the Byzantine Catholic faith and was an altar server at Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church in Parma. He made the pilgrimage to Mt. St Macrina every year of his 90 years-minus two. He was very active in his church community and acquired many special friends. He volunteered for St. Mary's Hospitality House for many years right up to just a few weeks ago. Some of his favorite pastimes included birdwatching, astronomy, and rooting for his favorite Pittsburgh teams. His baking accolades include a first prize for his skillet blueberry pie. Please don't get us started on his stuffed cabbage, nut and poppyseed rolls and homemade Belgian waffles!
This is but a glimpse of Frank Hanigosky, as we can not fit 90 years on one short page. But talk to anyone who loved him and they will be happy to share their memories .
Dad truly is the wind beneath our wings and will be deeply missed.
